Re: What is your favorite major american city?

Yah I think a better poll would be what is your favourite American city besides Boston. For me that would be SF. I love the mix of city and nature/natural beauty. Cali is really a beautiful state. Plus the weather is great.

I'm also a fan of Charleston SC. Gives me a Boston of the south vibe (just a little bit smaller and not as many towers).

Re: What is your favorite major american city?

I'm a long-time lurker... Grew up in Boston but then moved down to Houston. Not saying its the best city in the United States (San Diego is my #1), but it gets an undeservedly bad rap.

We are one of the top 4 food cities in the US (Most don't realize the huge Asian population here in addition to Latinos), have great museums and a world class opera, the 3/4 major sports teams, and a world class university (Rice). Additionally, the neighborhoods are densifying and some have a lot of character (beautiful old plantation homes in River Oaks and bungalows in Montrose, for example).

Houston is pretty cool, except for the weather (ugh) and the sprawl outside 610.

Oh, and Go Rice.

If you took the best aspects of Houston and applied them to a city the size of Providence, it might come across as a nice city but when you consider that two million people live there it's still a toilet.

I heard that and it ruled it out for a place to live. I'd love to visit though...heard great things about it!
