I can donate $40 twice a month for a little bit to help get everything working great.

For those of us not so familiar with Forum hosting software, would you mind throwing together a little pros/cons list for each?

Re: [Poll] Moving to a new forum/what software to use

I'm not super knowledgeable about all of these, so if anyone else is please chime in, but I have used websites with all of these softwares before, and have done some research on them beforehand

Xenforo
Pros:
Very user friendly
Good customization options for users
Many style options available
Cons:
Not free
Not as lightweight as other options

phpBB
Pros:
Free
Lightweight
Easy to use, both user and admins
Cons:
Visuals a little outdated
Not a lot of user customization options

vBulletin
Pros:
Good mobile experience
Better photo and video hosting than other software
Cons:
Not Free
Not as lightweight
Not as much style options as Xenforo

Simple Machines
Pros:
Free
Lightweight
Best customization options
Good user custom options
Cons:
Not as many stable add-ons as other softwares
Installing onto website not as easy as other softwares

Isn't phpbb development essentially dead? The last major release was over 15 years ago. Are people voting for it because it's free?

The last major update was phpbb 3.2 which was released in 2016. Bug fixes/updates have continued since then with the last update released December 28th 2018 https://www.phpbb.com/community/view...f=14&t=2496526

Non of the non-free options are a subscription, right? It's just one purchase and we're done?

If that's the case, I don't think that cost should be a con on these. We've had a few people who have offered to pony up some cash, and I would be willing to as well. If someone puts up a gofundme, I'm sure we'll make whatever we need quickly and anything on top of it can go to the monthly cost of running the servers.
