I think the issue isn't really the platform, but, retaining/migrating the previous posts/data from here (which isn't exactly easy without full access).

Re: Briv

It's been over 7 months since we have seen any contact or new members, I think it's time to start exploring ways to archive and migrate to a new site.
I am going to set up a new site and start tinkering with some ways to achieve this. If anyone has any know-how on this or wants to help, PM me.

Thank's for the help. It will be difficult at first to migrate to a new site but over the long term it's something that needs to be done to ensure the health and longevity of this site.

Re: Briv

website is https://archboston.city if anyone wants to be an early adopter. I am currently working on putting together a web scraper to gather all the posts on this forum (i have little programming knowledge so this is going slow). I am keeping a separate subforum area for the archived posts from this website. I will make a separate post when everything is gathered from here. Member signup will be activation by me (like here, to prevent spam) but i will be looking for some people to admin so it's not just me (send me a PM if interested)

You may want to make this it's own thread in this forum to get more attention from the members.

It sounds like the good doctor here managed to scrape the .org archive together, which I think was a primary concern. Sounds like between Justin anf the good doctor you two have a lot of the right capabilities. Can you make this a joint effort? Your work is very appreciated.

Re: Briv

We should be using some serious forum software such as Xenforo instead of laughably outdated phpBB.

Re: Briv

I'll seriously consider it if this situation continues for a while and we formulate a well-defined plan.

My original post on this thread was nearly 2 years ago. This situation has already continued for a while. We even had a scare last year where the site went down for about a week, luckily it wasn't permanent.

Re: Briv

OK well I can pony up $40. If other people care enough to save the forum they can match.

Re: Briv

I've been a member of this forum and its predecessor for half my life, if we come up with a solid plan to migrate to a new site (including giving an appropriate number of our most trusted contributors full moderator privileges and making sure we have more than one admin so this Briv situation never repeats itself) I will contribute to whatever it costs to get the most cutting edge forum software available.

Re: Briv

This looks like an appropriate theme for this forum. I can pay for this too when the time comes.

Re: Briv

... There are people on this site (BB?) who have met briv in person. Do those people think there's any chance he is ever going to be reachable, or is it 100% that archboston will forever remain in his hands?

Re: Briv

I havenít spoken to Briv in about four years. He used to live relatively close to me, but Iíve no idea where heís living today, or anything about his life. If his personal life is as troubled as some have suggested on this thread, I only wish him well.
