Martha's Vineyard Casino Resurrected?

Though, it doesn't sound like it will be too much competition for Wynn

not much competition because it is hours away and on an island, but as a tourist destination they could build/relocate close to the beach and support a medium sized hotel... but they will probably want to see how it goes first.

Foxwoods-by-the-Sea. Classy.

IIRC, doesn't a tribal casino anywhere in Mass on reservation land (not the ridiculous Mashpee Wamps moving to Taunton nonsense) mean tax free operations by federal law, and if that's the case all existing casinos get to operate tax free as well? Wynn is probably bankrolling the MV Wamps in their efforts.

Martha's vineyard is a much better location for a casino compared to Everett.

There is no way they will build a medium sized hotel on the island, let alone in Aquinnah. There are barely any hotels there as it is. Just because they received the go ahead on a gaming license doesn't mean they have the right to build a hotel.

How so? Idyllic summer vacation spot vs. washed up urban cesspool that can't really get any worse?

Why not P-town, Nantucket and Lenox while we're at it?

How about Mashpee? That after all is the tribal home of Mashpee Wamps, and they ain't gonna win their case to reservation shop in Taunton especially with Trump running the show who hated the tax free competition Indian casinos cost him. Why not build on the state's top summer vacation spot? As a federally recognized tribe, all they need is that ancestral reservation declaration and they're off to the races tax free with zero state oversight now that casinos are already up and running.

Seriously, Martha's Vineyard is a joke of location in terms of the criteria of mass transportation access/competitiveness with regional peers.

From Logan to Wynn Boston will be, what, 15 minutes, curb-to-curb? In contrast, Logan to Martha's Vineyard casino, curb-to-curb... 2.5 hours, in best possible conditions?

A Martha's Vineyard casino wouldn't even compete with Foxwoods NOR Mohegan Sun, in terms of curb-to-curb from Logan, when you factor in timing the ferry schedule.

And, once the summer crowds are gone, you've got 9 months of a year-round population of 16,500. And not a particularly wealthy 16,500, as far as I'm aware. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

And who from the nearest mainland markets of New Bedford/Fall River/Providence will really opt for the ferry ride to the casino vs. simply driving to Wynn, Twin River, Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods?

I have no problem in the abstract with a Indian casino on the Vineyard, although I'm sure it will be even more politically controversial than your average casino proposal. Just don't try to claim it makes sense from a traditional competitive standpoint...
