Re: Why is this building empty?
Hmmm. Ron, I'm not so sure ... I think there was, actually.
And the building that housed Celebrations had many unsuccessful clubs at that locale. I think it's where the computer shop is, now? |

Did NESOP replace an earlier, taller building?

Re: Why is this building empty?
According to this photo from 1942, it doesn't look it, Ron. The building in the center, still standing today, is where a Bertucci's now operates. The two buildings to the left, one of them cut off on the side, seem to have been replaced by the New England School of Photography building. Perhaps they were reclad, but I can't be certain. The building we're talking about in this thread has it's roof line peaking to the left-center, presumably hold up the Dawson's Ale sign.
![]() Link Also, if you look carefully in this photo from 1910, you can see the three buildings (where today's NESOP and Bertucci's are) in the previous photo did not even exist yet; just a tiny shack. They were likely the first buildings ever on that land. ![]() Link |

The Harvard Coop was where the B&N at BU is, now.

Re: Why is this building empty?
It looks like they hadn't built the portal on Comm. Ave. yet...I assume there was a subway entrance somewhere down that way?
On another note: has anyone here ever gone to NESOP? Recommended? |

Re: Why is this building empty?
By the way, why aren't Boston's desperate and oft-evicted artists squatting in this yet?

Re: Why is this building empty?
It appears from the date of the photo that the sole subway tunnel from Park to Boylston ended at a portal on Boylston St. near the Public Garden in front of what is now the Four Seasons....thus the reason for the extra lane at that point, turning into Charles. The trollies for the various lines emerged at that point and made their way down Boylston, and at Copley Sq, split to go down Huntington, etc.

Re: Why is this building empty?
More like why is a 10 year old thread being dug up when we already have a development proposal http://www.archboston.org/community/...506#post328506
