Because, as we have went of ad nauseam, they can't build what was proposed as the FAA limited the height.

Just want a better design.

The last thing Stanley said is good advice for we unimportant people.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

why does everyone keep saying they won the bid in part due to their design? We all know why they won the bid and it had nothing to do with the proposed tower design. Cash = king.

Honestly when looking at the original proposal it did not look finished. Parts of it look like a placeholder.

Kind of the way that a rose bed is a placeholder for a load of manure.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

What if they just filled the parcel with 2 asymmetrical skyscrapers... including sloping the roofs inside the FAA cone.... Could it be done (well)... Does a workable combination exist??

The densest plan that may have been deemed acceptable might have been something close to Transnational's proposal.

Girthy 60 percent of the way up and 2 or 3 office campaniles of varying heights would do nicely, thank you.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

I like it. Amazon: make the call..... But those dead blocks after dark in the general area enclosed by Franklin, Arch & Summer Street/s could probably benefit from a few more residents, albeit, the more wealthy category are probably not filling the streets very late in the evening hours.

How about 2 cores, a single tower 1/3 of the way up.... then the remaining office floors connected by 3 or 4 sky bridges..... Then getting a sizable gap between 2 asymetrical more-slender resident towers reaching toward the FAA limits. One tower reaching about 695' and the other about 675'.

ArchBoston made BisNow, apparently others not feeling the love design-wise!

The public comment period for the new Millennium tower runs through April 9, and comments have abounded. ArchBoston, a popular Boston architecture website, regularly features calls from users chiding the new design and labeling it a blight on the skyline.

Glad to see developers are getting a gut check. It's great that we are finally holding them accountable.

Wow! This article sure holds everyone's feet to the fire in getting assurances that the design will be worked on to achieve a signature building. Really like how the author addressed the bait and switch of the developers! And everyone here can take some credit for this as well.

Seems like a smart tactic: Win with an amazing design. Bring everyone's expectations to the lowest possible. Then build 'em back up with a somewhere in the middle design. Everyone's content! Wishful thinking I guess.

2 cores or the design will continue to founder, imo.

Where is this "amazing design" everyone keeps talking about? They won the development rights because they blew everyone else away with their bid. Is that not a fact?

Seriously. The original design was pretty mediocre/shite, too - although at least it kind of played/blended off of the Millennium Tower. They won by bidding 3x the amount as the next closest.
