Re: Boston East | 126 Border St | East Boston Waterfront

Jesus that's ridiculous. I guess I didn't realize just how stupidly expensive things got.

That's the price that it's being put on for, but will anyone bite? Personally I think it would be stupid to pay that kind of dough in Eastie. For that price you can live in the seaport.

People are moving into this completed project. Any word on a second phase? The land to the south of this site has been cleared and it looks like a seawall has been bulit along the shore line.

Lot to the south of Boston East.

Not quite.

What about that piece of land near the water in the top pic? It's an eyesore! Are they just going to leave it like that? Looks like slum!

Agreed East Boston is one of the hidden gems of Boston. If theyre smart theyll take advantage of this to make the neighborhood more a part of Boston. Right now its kind of a separate entity and a lot of people dont even really realize it exists. I didnt when I was younger until my parents brought me to Santarpios. I remember when we got off the highway and into the neighborhood thinking wow this is a pretty unique neighborhood. It doesnt look like any other Boston neighborhood with the downtown waterfront side of the skyline looming over all of the houses. The skyline is like the neighborhoods background. Its unique with the skyline looming, the street grid, lots of masonry buildings instead of triple deckers, the houses abutting eachother instead of being separated, spaced out corner stores in the ground floors of these brick/brownstones.

The whole neighborhood is like a downtown and its probably the most urban neighborhood overall like certain parts of Roxbury. Obviously people know about Eastie by Logan Airport being here but they dont really stop and think about the area its in besides that they need to go there to catch a flight and you have to go under the harbor to get there. It suffers a bit from the fact that to get there from downtown you have to take the under-used blue line, drive through the Ted Williams tunnel, or you can take a water taxi. I think the views and waterfront park can be a draw to get people out here so they definitely need to get the harborwalk right. Dont let any of these new ritzy condo complexes take over parts of the harborwalk its for everybody. Some waterfront restaurants would take advantage of the best views in the city and get people out here and the harborwalk could keep em.

Point taken, but the vacant south site is planned to be lite marine industrial (which I think is a pie in the sky idea). In my opinion this should be treated as a separate project. Once they actually get a client and propose a facility we can treat it accordingly.
