I am just nervous there will be some period of time between the completion of these podiums and the start of the tower.
I think it doesn't even necessarily means that phase transition is not seamless, just that there IS a phase transition. They organized this in phases for a reason - they want the option to stop/delay if it makes sense to.

A construction project is an entity to itself, independent of the building that will stand there when construction ends. Building teams and management teams are formed and dissolved with each project. The 3 phases of this are related in that the are literally on top of each other and and will look like all one building when complete, but they aren't necessarily related programatically. The same workers, management, etc from Phase 1 may or may not work on Phase 2. Or they may. Clearly, Phase 1 - a construction project and a building in its own right - has passed a significant milestone. Cheers to them.

For what it's worth, Boston Properties announced their fourth quarter 2017 earnings yesterday. During the call, they apparently announced that they have started construction on the 440-unit residential phase of the project.

From looking at the webcam, they've definitely started the office tower also.

They are still adding steel above the podium. My guess is this is the final floor until we get some sort of announcement, but I honestly would have thought that about the last floor.

Just want to second this for facts sake. This is an accurate description of phasing and I'll add that phasing also has budgetary/funding implications as well. Funding can be allocated by phase or contingent upon completion of phases. As stated, phases can even have entirely different teams.

So yes, they've topped out phase I as defined by the contract, so let them eat cake (and raise a tree).

Blame Pheldy34, they don't want to show the start of construction of HQ2 before its announced.

Tasty Burger is open and they closed the McDonalds, inside North Station, a couple weeks ago.

They appear to be shifting the location of the tower crane for the residential tower/hotel. There is a new crane base being installed at the top of the podium, along the causeway street side of the structure. Its sitting on top of some large steel beams that were installed 1-2 months ago.

We have two new tower crane bases. One on the west side and another on the south side of the resident/hotel podium.
