Otherwise, the other two big proposals, Chiofaro and SST, are unaffected by the law. What other parcels are we talking about?

Future talls are already migrating towards North Station because that and near the Christian Science Center are the highest allowed heights in the city per the FAA. For Copley I think the now defunct Copley Tower is grandfathered in but otherwise what projects are now out of luck? If the Christian Scientists decide to bust out another 700-800 footer on their property, this won't stop them.
Also the Copley Place Tower I think is except (if it ever happens) as it was already approved before any law changes (honestly not even sure if it would cast a shadow at all anyways). And yeah - I guess we can thank Vornado for keeping the hole so long in DTX as it certainly provided the will to stream line the Millennium Tower ASAP.

Why is the work being done at night?

Re: Winthrop Square Garage Being Demolished

because it's not a particularly residential area and doing demo at night is actually less obtrusive and disruptive than doing it during the day in a busy business district.

Re: Winthrop Square Garage Being Demolished

Copley Tower makes a thin but significant shadow that rapidly glides over Copley Square making stops at Trinity Church, Old South Church, BPL, and the green patch........ The height and massing was quietly Grandfathered about 3 years ago.

Something could very well get done here someday.

Re: Winthrop Square Garage Being Demolished

This thread is pretty funny. The other one got closed so someone made a thread about the "garage demo" lol so we can have the exact same conversation over here n it works because people want to talk about this tower...

Re: Winthrop Square Garage Being Demolished

Came across this picture but they used some old renders plus *RIP Copley. Either way sort of cool. This tower is now shorter than 1 Dalton and they used Accordia here plus the heights seem exaggerated between buildings but whatever still cool to look at them next to each other. Not sure why they exaggerated everything so much but whatever don't take the heights at face value.

Looks like they mistakenly assumed the Pru's height was to the top of the antenna instead of the roof. That is why it looks so wonky.

So basically what you are saying is that whoever created this has never actually been to Boston before.

Maybe that, or maybe they don't know much about how buildings are measured and made a mistaken assumption. It appears they trusted the numbers over their own eyes.

If you happen to catch any NIMBY's outside of the construction area openly weeping at the destruction of their beloved garage, please feel free to post those pictures too.

701', although only to one corner. The rest of this is in the 690's.

The determination is in "circularization" and the preliminary study says it will pass at 701'.

Get permitting for 702' and while the tower is in the process of going u/c to after construction begins, hit up FAA/Massport for an extra 15'......

Really, if it ends up 10 feet below FAA limits, I still think we spike the football and say FU to all NIMBY's.
