Re: Assembly Row (Assembly Sq Redevelopment) | Assembly Square | Somerville

I would like to see the DCR give a hundred year lease for housing on the river side of the tracks, with proceeds used to better bridge the tracks themselves.

while the River side is technically...

Re: Encore Boston Harbor Casino | Everett

I sympathize with displaced Wellington garage Parkers:why isn't it a "rule" that parking so close to a T is somehow reserved for T users?

Or why wasn't the casino asked to build / add instead of...

Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

Where RER is a defined term (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%A9seau_Express_R%C3%A9gional) based on Paris' 1960s to 1990s re-invention of its old rail network with a cross tunnel and transit...

Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

In re circumferential: note that DC's new Purple line, while hitting all the Beltway Metro stops, actually threads it's way through local demand nodes (not around the belt highway)

I think that with the crush volumes that they do, they needed two stops.

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Have they said for how long Lechmere will be bustituted?

If they have secured the right to build New Lechmere and most of its new viaduct, then the closure could be limited to just the time it...

Re: Ecology/Environmental issues, preservation, resources in Greater Boston

We got talking about the Norway Maple (all removed from the Volpe site in Cambridge).

Medford was big on Norway Maples in the 1920s, planting them in the narrow 4' verge between sidewalk and...

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

So the 9s will:
Probably be clustered on 1 line / yard / shop (?)
mix in traffic with 7/8s
Trainline only with other 9s and future 10s

And so 9s will not be trainlined with 7/8

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Massachusetts owns the Northeast corridor the whole way between Rhode island and South Station.

However it was Amtrak and federal money that improved the line and so there is a operating agreement...

Re: Biking in Boston

I'd like to see a better bike tie-in between the Harborwalk and the Connect Historic Boston trail (perimeter of North End).

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

In re cops in streets: Baltimore used to have an officer at a grid of about 9 downtown intersections at rush hours (about 3block x 3blocks at the very center).

Studies showed that traffic moved...

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

How about we just leave empty support columns (and spend the money on GLX platform shelters and double-ended access) until we can afford it as wide as bike advocates want?

Right now, the station...

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

"It's so crowded nobody goes there anymore"

Nobody's saying: don't build it. Nobody's saying make it narrower. I *am* saying that just because the thing is going to be a "victim" of its success...

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

That's not my point. Inducing demand is great. Committing to endlessly accommodate it by widening is stupid.

The solution for cars is: get used to behaving differently on I-93 during rush hour...

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Watch this obsolete video for a sense of what we're (me, anyway) mostly talking about: the mile-long viaduct-and-bridge section.

This 2014 animation shows the "too expensive" version and is not...

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Improving access to the GLX itself is a good thing...and a thing that's going to get use 50,000 times a day. Why isn't that the headline: what incremental bits can we squeeze into this project that...

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

So, when MagicMan wants wider roads as a solution to traffic, you're going to support him because of all the utility people will get?

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

This bike path through Somerville is essentially just like the interstate highway system: initially seen as an alternative to local streets, it will end up inducing demand,as people go out of their...
