It was a waste product until the cracking refineries were developed that could turn bitumen into more gasoline. So now asphalt prices move in concert with oil prices. Reducing gasoline demand should...

Glass tends to have a bit of a greenish tint to it because of traces of iron in it. Special low iron glass is clearer, and naturally more expensive because of the need for purer sand.

Anecdote time: when one of my friends graduated and was scouted by Microsoft, their starting salary was 90k, and that was 6 years ago, so wages have probably increased since then.
