Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Somebody at ArchBoston must have a better answer than I did, yes? I'm glad I tried addressing it as an information problem (nail the up/down times to power predictive re-routes, instead of reactive)....

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

I divided my points into 1 & 2 specifically to say that doing "2.x" wasn't really doing that thing until you *actually knew in advance* when the bridge was going up and could get all the re-routes...

Information:
1.0) T should know when high tides are, so that it can warn on variable message signs/audio: "bridge raisings likely during next two high tides"...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

I will take the "diesel still with us" side of the bet, if you're looking for about a $20 wager.

I think you underestimate the power of depreciated assets. Somebody is going to be the...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

and/or add an exit ramp/tunnel from the westbound I-90 to Silver Line Way.

Before I-90 opened, the TWT had a temporary up-ramp there (I think to D St?)

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Reading the plan, they seem to have chosen different themes for the different corridors, as if each would be a standalone test of different approaches to improving service:

Broadway= bus lanes +...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Everett's plan is all street-running, and is about consolidating service onto improved corridors:

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

This is the kind of contention where actual life-cycle costs and pollution grams-per-mile numbers are needed, not just a "electric is better" (and I say this as a Nissan Leaf owner (bought used,...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

It will be interesting to see how much demand need not involve Seaport/SS but is simply Market Basket <--> Airport (and could be served with a CNG bus (no tunnel issues))

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

I'm confused by the expression A-typical, which sounds like atypical (unusual) but is used here like typical (usual), but neither is quite Type A (dominant personality?)

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Studies show little effect (Cleveland) or no effect (Denver, San Diego, Chicago) of new transit on the he occurrence or distribution of crime.

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

I have to believe that the trend will be stop-by-stop gentrification of Chelsea with an influx of people looking for access to their jobs in the Airport or Seaport. East Boston got nice in a big...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

A single tube two lane dynamically tolled HOT tunnel would be an interesting option. Massporrt could probably pay partly with PFCs the way Dulles has paid for the DC Metro Silver Line

TSP SL@D is so important (and Seaport mobility is such a known problem and Silver Line Anything is such a known solution) it would be really good to...

Why hasn't MassDOT funded TSP for SL@D?

If we asked Boston what they want for SL@D, what would their answer be?

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

The point remains that if the T had stayed focused on organization before signals before concrete, signal priority at D st should have been in the bundle (or it's scope creep) not pretty concrete...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Is there anything special about Chelsea, BRT, or semi-isolated stations along a paved ROW that would suggest that SLG will suffer uniquely in the overnight hours?

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

How are buses kept graffiti-free-ish at yards over night?Or how are above-ground Green/Silver stops kept safe? The Transit police currently don't have a reason/basis to patrol Chelsea. Once SLG is...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

It seems the happy challenge is to ensure lots of people/witnesses:
- bus drivers every 8 minutes (15 min headway each way)
- riders constantly (though few)
- active/better connections to the...
