Re: The Boston "what if" thread

"what if" the Inner Belt Xway (I-695), SW Xway (I-95_, and NE Xway (Route 2) had been built? What would Boston, Cambridge and Somerville be like today. Would the traffic be any better?

The...

Re: Dock Square Parking Garage | 20 Clinton Street |

Why is a garage needed at all? It was built around 1980 when there was a whole lot less traffic congestion. An artifact from another time,

Re: Dock Square Parking Garage | 20 Clinton Street |

Actually, the elevated Central Artery was built in the early 1950's, but on this site the original buildings stayed up for awhile. Then they were torn down in the late 50's/early 60's, and replaced...

Re: Dock Square Parking Garage | 20 Clinton Street |

Completely eliminate the garage, don't bury it, Yes, have enough parking for residents of the new building, but that's it. Boston has the highest traffic congestion in the nation, and eliminating...

Re: Dock Square Parking Garage | 20 Clinton Street |

Umm, this is an architectural discussion site. "Shut up" is not what it's set for.

Re: Dock Square Parking Garage | 20 Clinton Street |

Both versions suck because they keep the garage.

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

It reminds me of the Prudential Tower, from that angle.

Re: Bulfinch Crossing Residential Tower (GCG Phase I) | 50 Sudbury St | Gov't Center

Ues, the small one on the lower left of the photo. Seems like an ideal spot for a commercial/residential mini-tower

Are there any pans to build something on that parking lot in the lower left?

Re: Photo of the Day, Boston Style: Part XII (2019)

Nice ^ Back in the 50's and 60's, the thinking would have been: this should all be torn down and replaced with superblocks. Thankfully, urban vitality of this pedestrian scale is now...

Re: Annexation

Okay, no actual annexation, but how about making the metro area (out to about halfway between I-95 and I-495) one COUNTY with strong planning powers and funding from the member cities and towns. ...

Re: Annexation

I tend to agree. The traffic gridlock is the worst in America, the housing costs are at the very highest end nationally, and, yes, NIMBYs shoot down almost every effort to expand transit (Red Line...

Re: How would you describe/characterize the current build cycle??

I agree. Chicago impresses me as a world class city, a real city, the "city of the big shoulders" as it's been called. Boston is great in its own right, but extremely provincial and fussy by...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

I'm pretty sure this is a proposal for an elevated steam train rail line, similar to the ones existing in Manhattan at the time. I've read somewhere else that this elevated rail line was seriously...
