Re: Worcester Improvements

Making that street a pedestrian mall makes sense. It's a low traffic street and the triangle with the fountain and columns is a pedestrian dead zone. There's a coffee shop and a nice lunch spot...

Re: Worcester Improvements

FWIW, a bunch of restaurants opened downtown directly around the Common over the past few months:

- 110 Grill (upscale chain restaurant with a decent hotel bar in the AC Marriott)
- Fuel (coffee...

Re: Worcester Improvements

In that loft: a 20-something artist who owns a $5,000 chair and no kitchen equipment. Probably not the affordable unit.

Re: Worcester Improvements

Construction on the second, smaller portion of the City Square apartments appears to be under way. Windows are installed in the larger portion and cladding is going up, the garage looks complete. The...

Re: Worcester Improvements

That crane is for the steel starting to go up for the City Square hotel. About half of the first floor is now done.

The first half of the City Square apartments/condos is now up and garage work...

Re: Worcester Improvements

The Art Museum strikes me as an entity that is very content doing what it is doing right now, at the size it is at right now. It doesn't have many (any?) major area power brokers driving it. It's a...

Re: Worcester Improvements

Typical Worcester. That thing doesn't belong there and it's obvious it doesn't belong there... but it's going to get built. Wasn't the original plan to drop it on the other side of Kelly Square? That...

Re: Worcester Improvements

It has been increasingly depressing in that mall for a few years now. The Auburn Mall has the slight declining feel that the Greendale Mall had maybe 10 years ago. I think Auburn is getting a movie...

Re: Worcester Improvements

Why would there be outrage? Only a few blocks away Mount Carmel is actually still in use (by a dwindling congregation), has its interior and windows intact, and is going to close and likely be torn...

Re: Worcester Improvements

That seems to be the purpose of most downtown Worcester projects--just eat some dead space. More residential can only help but this is prime land that deserves something ambitious. Across the street...

Re: Worcester Improvements

The Shrewsbury Route 9 bridge is GREAT. Three lanes in each direction... A huge upgrade. The traffic is already better than before and if the road work on the hill ever gets finished it will be...

Re: Worcester Improvements

Bikers are the worst. A physical menace to pedestrians in Boston, and they totally destroy traffic flow at rush hour in Worcester. I hate them. They're like motorcyclists but without any semblance of...

Re: Worcester Improvements

Depends on your view of Shrewsbury Street. If you mean just the section closest to downtown with Via, Chop, Volturno, the Boulevard, etc. then sure. Then there is kind of a dead zone gap and Rhino,...

Re: Worcester Improvements

A few examples:

1. Downtown: street corners feature two handicap ramps crossing each street, however in between the ramps at the apex of the corner is a chunk of curb that isn't tapered in any...

Re: Worcester Improvements

The Kelley Square news is great--an unnecessary third gas station in that intersection would have been a downer. The triangle between Green and Water Street has so much potential. Anchoring it with...

Re: Worcester Improvements

Great news and a perfect spot for a hotel. Right off the train station, and walking distance to Shrewsbury St. and the DCU complex. Hopefully it helps that spot feel less like a wasteland between...

Re: Worcester Improvements

The Worcester State parking "solution" was killed a day or two ago. Pretty much unanimous opposition when it was brought up at the city counsel meeting.

WPI's solution is superb. I saw it...

Re: Worcester Improvements

Lots of space on Main Street as well in the form of parking lots. I would hate to see nicer buildings come down while there is still plenty of land for development in the area. I think there is an...
