Re: Garage Nightclub Redevelopment | 20 Linden Street | Allston

I don't agree.

Transit is mediocre at best in the area today. $2.5m to "transportation alternatives" in the neighborhood, will accomplish approximately nothing in terms of a measurable increase of...

Re: Green Line proposed platform length

No, we have an experimental vehicle operating in a very limited fashion. Which may or may not ever advance far enough to be of widespread, cost-effective, reliable use.

Re: Green Line proposed platform length

I don't believe anywhere in the world is running automated trains/trams on lines that aren't grade separated.

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Some opinions regarding the current discussion:

- Warren/Allston/Griggs may be close together, but that stretch is fairly high ridership. If you close two of those, you're going to make Warren and...

Re: Logan Airport Capital Projects

I think adding stops defeats the entire point of Logan Express, which is a fast ride to the airport as reliable and quick as if you're driving yourself from that area, and with the cars being stored...

Re: Logan Airport Capital Projects

Yes. As well as paying for a portion of the physical buses used for the Silver Line.

In fact, Massport/MBTA collaborations were the subject of a FMCB presentation this week, and can be seen here:...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

If they can't reopen it for tomorrow/Friday, it's going to be an impressive disaster over there.

PAX East begins tomorrow. And Michelle Obama is speaking at the Seaport Hotel.

Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

That's already in progress. BU West, St Paul, Babcock and Pleasant are being consolidated into 2 stations instead of 4.

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

Multiple projects. They're basically rebuilding much of the existing yard, expanding the yard with new tracks, expanding the building (as Equilibria noted), and renovating the existing building.

Re: Summer St. Gondola

I continue to not actually be a proponent of it, but I will poke holes in weak arguments:

The fixed cost of operating a gondola is basically nothing in comparison with a bus. It really doesn't...

Re: Summer St. Gondola

I know nothing about ADA details, but I can tell you how boarding the handicapped works at ski areas: They ask the operator to slow or stop the lift (or if it's obvious they'll need it, the operator...

Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

Pretty heavy user of the 57 reporting:

It's exactly where it's needed.

Take a look at the delay in that stretch in this presentation:...

Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

Well, that's just the BostonBRT (Barr Foundation I think?) supported work.

The Roslindale/Forest Hills bus lane is supposed to going in for real next year, TSP is going in for the B + E branches...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Would you prefer the line to not be running for the next decade? Because your options are: Pay to keep the PCC's in working order or not run trains. There isn't a 3rd option for the short-term.

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

It's a short-term fix to keep them operating reasonably reliably another few years (I believe 5-6 years was the lifespan extension they anticipate). The alternative would be to not have a working...

Everett is the heavy repair shop for the whole system, not just the buses.

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

PATH's PA5's are less than 10 years old. And for fleet expansion, they've still got more options to expend on the original contract, they actually just...

Re: Proposed Boston flood barrier

Yeah! Let's just let all the office buildings where the jobs are, all the transit infrastructure, and whole neighborhoods of the region (many of which aren't rich at all) flood!

There definitely...

Re: Fenway - Longwood Transportation

As an entirely serious question: Is there actually a general traffic problem on Brookline Ave that needs attention? While I don't travel the corridor that often, I haven't seen major delays on it...

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

Do they? There seems to be plenty of new rolling stock in the US which has standard metal poles and car ends that look identical to the rest of the interior. (NYC's R179s and WMATA 7000 series come...

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

I don't like the yellow interior end of the car, it'd look better as just metal or white, IMO.

Re: Beacon St

You'd probably need to do much more major studies and redesigns of traffic flows and intersections in the whole area to accomplish that though.

I view it as the "big" mirror of Boylston across...

Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

If you're asking "why did the SL3 fail in South Boston?":

- Low frequency.

- Higher fare than local buses.

- At the time local traffic in the Seaport wasn't the disaster it is now, so while...
