Re: Rio Grande (née Dudley Square Residential Tower) | Washington St. | Roxbury

Maybe some enlightened souls can have a little fun here: just like Charles River Park apartments got legendary for their insufferably smug "If You Lived Here, You'd Be Home By Now"...

Re: St. Francis House | 19-story mixed-income tower | Lagrange Street | Chinatown

Yup.... and that's what this development project thread should be renamed to, because, as I pointed out a few posts above, the 19-story proposal at 41 LaGrange was yanked many many months ago.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

No, they did not miss such a chance, as the FAA would've forbidden such a height. Check out the FAA proscribed height-limit map for towers in Boston's core some time and you'll see it's all...

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

When you're referring to 75-101 Fed., then I suppose yes--although they certainly don't fit the "classic NIMBY template." For starters, they're a commercial real estate firm, not a residential...

Ah, I see, thanks for the clarification and sorry for the confusion on my behalf re: what you were actually saying.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Oh, come on. A NIMBY in this case is some 70-year-old Back Bay resident who came of age during Boston's stagnation, finds all new development abhorrent and is especially incensed that their little...

Re: Encore Boston Harbor Casino | Everett

Yeah the contour map for Robbins Farm (in Arlington, where I assume the photos were shot) shows ranging between 310-320 feet in elevation. The casino tops out at 350' apparently (and it's basically...

Re: Belmont: Cushing Village

This is starting to take shape quite fast now--the framing has risen to form the basic structure of much of the project. Given how the project site is embedded within Cushing Square's street grid &...

Re: St. Francis House | 19-story mixed-income tower | Lagrange Street | Chinatown

BYMCU Affordable Housing Renovation | 48 Boylston St. | Theater District

seems about right to me (tough for me to call anything north of the Boylston/Essex St. corridor "Chinatown"...

Re: St. Francis House | 19-story mixed-income tower | Lagrange Street | Chinatown

This thread is mislabeled and obviously the sign you saw is correct. Proof is on the BPDA Developments map subpage for downtown:

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

A mistake perhaps, aesthetically--put perhaps creating that 100' separation was exactly what was needed to make the project work, economically, in terms of the required ROI the bankers/investors...

Re: Longfellow Place (née Garden Garage Towers) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

It's hard to conceive of a more anti-urban design than that that was conceived for the West End redevelopment. All of the towers are huddled around the Thoreau Path, walling it off from exposure to...

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Just remember that BPDA has not signed off yet. BCDC is not a regulatory body--at least, not in the context BPDA is empowered. So by definition all those workers were only doing exploratory analysis...

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

I'm thinking this project proposal has a far greater than 32.33% [repeating, of course] chance of survival. LET'S DO THIS!!!!

Re: Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

That strikes me as a good guess... and that view happens to be due east fwiw. There's another very similar view from floor 3 or 4 of the MFA, but that one happens to be due northeast, fwiw.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Right. Like everywhere else in that general area, Winthrop Sq. is traversed with huge volumes of pedestrian traffic at morning rush hour, lunchttime, evening rush hour, then is pretty much dead. The...

Re: Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

Ah, thanks for the clarification & I retract my criticism. Yes, sadly, our rich abundance of grand architectural motifs from ca. 1873 (explosion of development post-Great Boston Fire) to 1926 or so...

Re: Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

Right, because it's not like there's any sumptuous French 2nd Empire, Gothic Revival, Art Deco, or Beaux Arts masterpieces to be found anywhere in our benighted burg, replete with dozens of rich...

Re: Emerson College - Little Building Addition + Renovation | 80 Boylston St | Downto

Re: Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

There are appears to be some very misleading and convoluted reasoning at work here. Let's recap what actually happened:

1.) Filene's Basement went bankrupt in 2009. The folks who swooped in to...

Re: Kenmore Square North

The most charitable thing I can say about it is it looks like a monstrously oversized space heater (?) or maybe one of those portable halogen worklights (?).

Either way, for being on the opposite...

Re: Limited-service Hotel Project | 73 Essex St | Chinatown

This. Boylston St. is kind of schizophrenic in this regard, from Mass. Ave/Pike overpass to terminus at end of Essex. It could be even be described as "fun" from Mass. Ave to Arlington St.--it's so...

Re: One Greenway (Parcel 24) | 0 Kneeland Street | Chinatown

Although I hear the Whereswaldo environmental remediation costs on some of those parcels can be ruinous--worse than asbestos & lead abatement combined.
