Re: Avalon North Station | Nashua Street Residences | West End

The building has 503 units, but does anyone know what the makeup of those units are? I've tried their site, this thread and a couple articles but I can't find a breakdown and total # of each size...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

Maybe I'm overestimating demand on the NEC, but I feel like converting Fairmount to heavy rail ignores the value of having a second ROW into South Station. In a post NSRL world would missing Back Bay...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

Not sure if we're allowed to link to other forums, but the first result from googling "loop tracks South Station" brings up a relevant thread. It sounds like they were intended to be used by the New...

Re: North-South Rail Link

Just saw this report from the Urban Land Institute on the potential impacts of NSRL, reading through it now and was curious if anyone had thoughts on it.

Re: North-South Rail Link

The way I've had the best results explaining it to people who are normally very anti-transit and/or fiscally conservative is this:

1. Train terminals take up a ton of space because they don't just...

Re: Amtrak / Regional Rail Discussion Thread

There's actually a "proposal" by CDoT called the Central Corridor to open up north/south passenger service to Amherst, but I'm not sure how likely this is or if it's still on the table at all....

APA Conference in NYC?

Is anyone else going to the APA Convention in NYC this year? I've never been and was wondering if anyone has any tips for things to check out at the conference and stuff to do in the city on a budget

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

If the money and political willpower magically appeared for this, here are the pros/cons of light rail vs. commuter rail IMO.

Pro:

No frequency limitations at Salem Tunnel and North Station

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

No idea where the ridership would be for this considering the abysmal # of riders on the bus service in the area (which also receives a huge boost from the malls and connections to Lynn)

Here's...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

I was at the Mass Moves conference in Springfield last week, and this subject actually came up quite a bit. The presenters kept having to phrase questions so that they could remind attendees that we...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

Spending 2 billion on Blue to Lynn seems crazy if we're only spending 3.5b to do all of the NSRL and buy the required electrification/rolling stock. I'm not 100% familiar with the most recent cost...

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

how the hell would that work? Why would you cut off the rest of the green line from going north of Govt. Center?

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Normal people don't gamble 9-5. Tourists come to Boston in summer, students/office workers vacation in summer. How the hell could this be a nuke to Boston's transit problem?

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Pretty sure 2 of the BU stops are gone to make room for the new bike lanes. Can't wait for a news piece on how evil cyclists are even attacking the T now

Re: North-South Rail Link

The N/S rail link would add new platforms underneath the stations to increase capacity, and not all lines or trains would use the link. Part of the reason for this is that portals (entrances to the...
