Re: Bones of Boston

Great post, and great idea for a thread. It's amazing how many places like the kind you've described have actually "emerged" into better urbanism in the past few years. Barry's Corner, Dudley, and...

Re: Downtown Crossing

I wish the name "Downtown Crossing" would go away. It sounds like a strip mall you'd find in Aventura.

While we're at it, "Government Center" also stinks.

Oh, and just about every new street...

Re: Downtown Crossing

Black is an interesting trend. Have you noticed that nearly all new window installs use black muntins and sashes? I would never do that on my house... I think it's a passing fad.

Re: 128 Widening

The Kendrick Street exit has almost certainly taken traffic off of Needham Street. But, now Nahanton Street (the continuation of Kendrick in Newton) is backed up in rush hour sometimes all the way...

Re: Encore Boston Harbor Casino | Everett

I think that for most of East Somerville, a GLX station will be a shorter walk than the Assembly station, given that Assembly is almost at the furthest point from the residential neighborhoods....

Re: Reasonable Transit Pitches

In that case, some wayfinding signs at the Dean intersection would be useful, to point people towards the D line.

I used to live there and thought it would be amazing if they had a digital...

Re: Reasonable Transit Pitches

I agree on Brandon Hall but not Dean, which seems well-placed at a major intersection. How about Hawes Street? That stop always P'd me off.

Re: Kenmore Square North

Hey sorry, I didn't follow. What about this is exactly why Trump was elected? Spoiler alert: the swamp's not exactly getting drained.

Anyway, I doubt it's worth giving up. Write the Herald,...

Re: Kenmore Square North

Trying to get my head around why this is so shit...

Preservation/Rehab/Facedectomy - Universally good ...to preserve pre-war urbanism.

Going tall and flashy to give Kenmore a better and bigger...

Re: Bartlett Yards | 2565 Washington Street | Roxbury

We need gobs of new multistory housing to bring down prices and make the city more affordable.

Waughhh it looks like a HOLIDAY INN omfg

Re: North-South Rail Link

It's a good pitch, and even more broadly I think the "branding" of NSRL aims too narrowly. The words North-South-Rail-Link simply evoke the poor NYC Amtrak passengers trying to get to Maine, who now...

Re: South Boston Infill and Small Projects

Should this have its own thread? It seems more substantial than simply "infill"

Re: The Hub on Causeway (ne TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

To people not familiar with Boston who see this, it will read as follows:
- Industrial buildings, those must be old
- Oh look, this atrium passageway with these trusses- must have been added later....

Re: General Infrastructure

I grant you that steps to nowhere is a bit silly, but it does send the message "hey, look! you can hang out in DTX even if you're not sketchy, and look, it's actually a bit boojie!"

Re: General Infrastructure

Are there plans to make this permanent - and look/feel permanent?

Stat, I don't see this as any less than the NYC interventions. If anything, actually, I think this goes further by truly creating...

Re: Logan Flight Additions

Probably very much off-topic, but I've been noticing lots of new flights and possibly new airlines at T.F. Green. Anyone have the pulse on what's been cooking there?

Re: The New Retail Thread

I get it, but the reporter turned a potentially interesting comparison into an Aesop's fable with the moral that people of all stripes are nice. Barf?

Thanks to everyone for answering my sincere curiosity about Revere - quite an education I've got in the previous 10 or so posts.

Re: The New Retail Thread

Re: Revere Developments

What's the deal with Revere? Is it a long-ingrained image problem? How could T-accessible beachfront property - and high-end amenities to cater to those properties - not be exploding in this market?...

Re: Innovation Dist. / South Boston Seaport

It fits: Seaport Blvd is the Comm Ave of the "New" Boston.

Comm Ave: Old money, understated elegance and classical forms
Seaport Blvd: Global finance, on-trend glitz, ephemeral fashion

Re: I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

We need to think bigger.

Eliminate SFR/Storrow all the way from Cambridge Street (SFR will feed directly into the Pike) to Charlesgate. Build the Pike's long-needed Back Bay ramps. Voila - no need...

Re: Tremont Crossing | Roxbury

^ That seems harsh. They're packing and layering a ton of retail into a small footprint. It can't all face Tremont - though in fact the small storefronts mostly do. And what doesn't face Tremont...
