Re: MIT Stephen A. Schwarzman College of Computing

Agreed, but I like the idea of reaching across the tracks with a building like building 46. There is a surface lot at 139 Mass ave and some space on the other side next to some older facilities. ...

Re: Site in Hub top choice for a soccer stadium

And renting from Harvard or anyone else I think misses the point of the kind of multifaceted opportunity Kraft would seemingly prefer. Look at Gillette and the surrounding commercial development...

Re: MIT Stephen A. Schwarzman College of Computing

FAQ says location has yet to be finalized, but I have to think there are some ideas. 150,000 to 165,000 square foot building. ...

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Good analysis. I visualize the posting progression on archboston to be akin to or as a result of a drinking game. Which is funny because I think some of the architecture and planning around here...

Re: North Station, Charles River Draw, & Tower A

Sorry thought the article said it was $100 million for just the design. $100 million isn't that bad then for a bridge replacement project.

Just frustrating that NSRL is dead in the water and...

Re: North Station, Charles River Draw, & Tower A

Or just say boats are not allowed to travel between the harbor and the river... I mean how many extra millions are we spending on draw bridges and locks for how many boats? I know I know... it's the...

Re: North Station, Charles River Draw, & Tower A

Should just build a new North station at Boston Sand and Gravel. All this to get trains just across the river and then stop.

Seriously, for $100 million (the cost to just design it)... they could...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

Figured it would be a lot lot cheaper than NSRL. Being mostly cut and cover and the real benefit would be connecting Kendall with the new Harvard owned land at Beacon Yards that is being freed up by...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

How about make it a floating bridge at sea level? Just move the sections out of the way horizontally instead of vertically like a draw bridge.

Something like this:...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

Cut and cover the Grand Junction for a rail tunnel with Bus lanes (BRT) or light rail on the surface above. Mostly cut and cover except for a dip under the red line.

Re: Garage Nightclub Redevelopment | 20 Linden Street | Allston

If they are going to put a station anywhere it should be right where they want to put West Station which would be a half mile walk in the other direction.

This development would then be right in...

Re: Kenmore Square North

Last time I checked (last week I think) Citgo doesn't have a lease with the owners and Citgo is likely about to be liquidated to Venezuela's creditors. I would be surprised if they are going to be...

Re: MIT.nano

This is a big step among many making the more utilitarian side of the MIT an integral part of campus. This area was largely slapped together during war time and during the Cold War and has some...

Re: Kenmore Square North

Remarkably dumb to keep the Citgo=murder sign. I like having a big sign there, just make it a Boston RedSox sign.

Re: Fort Point

The point would be that there is a trade away of value by replacing Gillette. I would hope that it would be net positive, but it is hard to say and it depends on how many jobs are supported and...

Re: Fort Point

I don't think we have concluded that they'll never move... I think we really just concluded that they will never move to another location in or around Boston.

If Gillette moves manufacturing...

Re: I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

We had some mention of that in this thread. Seems better to take some back alleys from BU than to fill in the Charles River.

I think that was always in the cards. Or at least implied with a...

Re: BU Development Thread

agreed. I usually hate cantilevered BS, but this balances out up top and I like it.

Base should be more approachable, less monolithic and human scaled at the street level.

And the facade...

Agreed on the ramp. Could just square off the facade and not have the reddish part of the facade follow the ramp.

Re: Union Point | Former South Weymouth NAS | Weymouth

I've learned to look at these proposals and judge the likelihood of their success by whether or not the phasing makes sense. If you look at Assembly they had a project phasing with underlying...

Re: General Electric HQ (Phase 1 - Necco Buildings Reno) | 244-284 A Street | Fort Po

The board should fire itself next. The past year or so has been a fiasco for the company and Flannery is every bit of a scapegoat just like they tried to make a scapegoat out of Immelt.

GE's...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Re: Official City Hall Plaza Proposals

I hereby invoke Godwin's Law (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin%27s_law) and corollaries.

Therefore City Hall should be preserved.
