SFR viaduct over the westbound surface Pike vs. over the eastbound surface Pike (I did the eastbound version):

Re: I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

Too bad they have to "unchoke the throat" with an SFR viaduct next to the river.

However, I can guarantee that filling in the Charles River to avoid a viaduct is impossible. I've been directly...

Re: I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

The concern would be the likely flooding of the Mass Pike tunnel in storm events. IMO, it would be better to have the rail tracks and the Pike side-by-side on the surface, and tunnel SFR beneath...

Re: Summer St. Gondola

I'm thinking of a gondola route that would start at the Community College Orange Line station, go through City Square with a stop there, continue along Chelsea Street, cross over to Chelsea and end...

Re: I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

Cambridge will never allow filling in the Charles River 10 feet (or probably more). That proposal was killed in the early 1960's when the original Pike design had both the Pike and SFR on the...

Re: Summer St. Gondola

The one place a gondola might make sense is between Chelsea and Charlestown, immediately to the east of the Tobin Bridge (as someone said already).

Summer Street is not a good candidate, for all...

Re: Cambridge Crossing (NorthPoint) | East Cambridge/Charlestown | Cambridge/Boston

Rather than looking at solutions for particular locations, a system-wide approach of expanding transit and reducing congestion would improve inner-metro transportation overall. A light rail urban...

Re: Cambridge Crossing (NorthPoint) | East Cambridge/Charlestown | Cambridge/Boston

There is no plan for Gilmore Bridge traffic. Boston and Cambridge do not address vehicular traffic. Period. Ever since the Expressway revolt/cancellation in the late 60's, the widening or...

Re: "Midtown"/Widett Circle in a non-Olympics Boston

As CSTH said above, there can be both. Have large linear areas of wetlands/waterways/wilds amidst the high density development. It adds flood resistance as well as aesthetics.

Re: T construction news

Are those concrete curbs in the Comm Ave project photos? If so, it would be a departure from the granite curbs used in the Boston metro area.

I agree. I also love the overall look and feel of the project. It conveys excitement, night life and fun.

Re: Julie Hall | Brookline Ave | Emanuel College | Fenway

The height variability of the buildings here is great, unlike the SB Waterfront. Also it's out a ways from downtown, with large areas of low-rise residential to the south. So I'm happy there...

Re: Parcel 9 - The Greenway

It would be nice to insert some street level retail into the ground floor of the ugly garage across North Street from the new hotel. Leave enough interior ramp space for car access to the upper...

Yep, this one would've been exciting:

Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

All great proposals^

Re-introducing light rail into the Harvard busway tunnel is something I'd thought about as a route for the Harvard-Kenmore future Green Line. It leaves open the...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

Well, I could see the Red Line as three tracks instead of the current four, with the middle track reversible, AM northbound and PM southbound. That would free up space for a second track for the...

I hope they keep the large white lettering on the building. That is truly iconic and awesome.

Re: Question on genesis of Architectural styles

Thank you for the response. As you say, "cause" is too blunt of a word. There are a lot of interactions and threads between the culture(s) and architecture.
