Re: I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

Thats not what Im saying. Smart people make stupid decisions too. Because driving is so easy and cheap, we do it without thinking.

And many times, suboptimal decisions are made because we don't...

Re: I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

You're ignoring that people make stupid decisions, and externalities arent priced.

So yes, making a trip less attractive is a valid choice.

I was just reading an article in NYC about a person...

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

You're right that ADA has made it harder, but let's not pretend US transit systems do a great job at this. Remember how much money and time the MBTA spent to raise every green line platform by 3...

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

Fair point, except we know it takes them longer.

Counterpoint: PCCs were incredibly successful.

Loading gauge for one isnt an issue. We even have trains where you can move the wheels back...

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

This is what happens when every agency insists on a custom train, every time.

And the 500 mile test is for every train, not just the first one. Every train.

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

Re: I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

-Reduce highway to 2 lanes each way
-Use money saved to build massive regional transportation center at Riverside with 3,000 car garage and connection to 4 rail lines

Re: Biking in Boston

It's not the law. Hence the problem. It is engineer discretion.

Those standards were developed for 10 foot high text to be read by traffic moving at 60mph.

Re: Biking in Boston

Interesting that they want PEDS TO YIELD to bikes.

Re: Downtown Crossing

Sure, the specific Kings model might be at the right mass, but Boston is certainly under-entertained in general.

Theres a whole range of games such as:

Shuffleboard
Bocce

Re: Summer St. Gondola

The maintenance thing is a very good point, but its important to conduct a cost-benefit analysis.

Not all modes are equal. Providing actually useful bus service would require exclusive bus lanes....
