Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

I think mis-allocation of government spending (federal and otherwise), as well as inefficiencies and poor cost control are all problems and not mutually exclusive. And all of these issues affect the...

Re: Biking in Boston

Bike infrastructure pitch:

Continue the cycle track east along Causeway and Commercial, to the existing cycle track at Charter St.

Construct a new cycle track from the west end of this one,...

Re: Reasonable Transit Pitches

Absolutely!

But the claim was "Porter is the highest used of the non terminus commuter rail stops ... besides back bay" which was the case until a few years. Ruggles has surpassed Porter in CR...

Ruggles has surpassed Porter in ridership to claim that distinction.

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

By this metric, wouldn't surface routing along Marginal and Hudson be most desirable?

Portal around Chinatown Gate. Take parking and one lane of traffic from the south side of Marginal. Close...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

At that point: why not a tunnel connecting Boylston to South Station and the Transitway? I know the tunnel under Essex Street is supposed to be crazy complicated and expensive, but given the...

Re: Reasonable Transit Pitches

Small, reasonable transit pitch as a regular Fitchburg Line rider:

Run Fitchburg Line Train 402 Express from Lincoln to Kendal Green (without stopping at Silver Hill or Hastings) like Trains 406...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

If you were looking at going to a $0 fare for any MBTA service, it would make sense to start by targeting bus service. It's the service that serves the most low-income population with the fewest...

Re: Reasonable Transit Pitches

Definitely need an infill between Roslindale Village and Forest Hills, given the density and transit use of that neighborhood. Archdale/South St ("Arboretum") would be appropriate.

Re: Red Line / Blue Line Connector

21 years??

21 years is a ridiculous amount of time. In the last 21 years, the Beijing Subway has expanded by 20 lines, 350 stations, and about 350 HRT track miles. What the fuck? Can somebody...

Re: Congestion toll in Boston?

What if a very small congestion zone was piloted for proof of concept? Just an area of Downtown Boston, from Government Center to Chinatown to South Station, that does not apply to vehicles passing...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

With that being said, it appears they layover five trains on an average weekday. The first five inbound runs from Wachusett start before the last outbound gets out there.

Studying ridership data...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

How many trains can layover at the Wachusett Yard in Westminster? I see that there are six tracks that are 1,000 feet long. Does this mean only six trains can layover there, or is there room for more?

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

That's fair. I only want to attest to the mistaken Waltham numbers on those runs. The Zone 2 speculation was only a tiny bit of speculation. The main point is the incorrect Waltham data for those two...

I agree. So how we do we implement policy that combats these externalities, in a society in which the average person is (willfully) ignorant of said externalities, and completely unwilling to support...

Re: Congestion toll in Boston?

I strongly disagree with what DZH22 is saying, and at times his responses have been rooted more in trolling than honest discussion, but DZH22's base response to congestion zone tolling is in line...
