Re: North-South Rail Link

Oh I totally see the advantage of opening up the Grand Junction for revenue service, and better non-revenue moves. The aspect I'm questioning is the reverse move NS-WS-BB service pattern....

Re: North-South Rail Link

Who does a NS-BB/SS line via Grand Junction serve?

If you're coming from the North Side and want to get to SS, it would be quicker to transfer to OL at NS.

If you're coming from the South Side...

Re: North-South Rail Link

I would think that a link that does not include the Northeast Corridor would have a much more limited utility. Not a replacement for North-South Rail Link

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

What about Recreation Rd? It already has good ramp access to/from I-95 S/N and I-90 E/W, as well as undeveloped land.

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Many people drive from Arlington, Lexington, and Bedford to park at Alewife (especially in the winter). There’s no reason to believe Belmont and Waltham would be any different. The Minuteman and Mass...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Indigo Line or short-turn service to Riverside would be cool and not something that was on my mind when proposing the infill station. That's a good point!

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Ah yes. I probably shouldn't have used the term "hike" as that evokes an image of a long walk.

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

I think we're talking past each other. The location of the new infill station would be somewhere between track-mile 10.7 and 11.5 on the Worcester Line. What does the proximity to Riverside have to...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Exactly. That's the point. Riverside serves park-n-ride commuters well for the Green Line. The Worcester Line is severely lacking in this area (park-n-ride commuters).

The Commuter Rail is <30...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

I think you misunderstand me. I am talking about a new station in a different location. I'm not sure I understand what you're talking about.

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

The Wellesley stations are very inconvenient and out-of-the-way from the highways. Riverside is only helpful if you want to take the Green Line. Not very convenient for those traveling to South...

Re: North-South Rail Link

Yes. This is exactly my point. And that's not to mention that the inflation rate they use is questionable at best, and uncertain to be correct, at least.

We know how much 2018 dollars are worth....

Re: North-South Rail Link

The report is in "2028 dollars." They decided to use an absurd inflation rate that we haven't seen in decades. Also, when discussing cost, they never mention the cost in relation to the SSX...

Re: Biking the Boston 'Burbs (Trails, MDC, & Towns beyond Hubway area)

^That's huge, great news. Biking on Main Street in Waltham is a disaster. I do it every day, but not for the past couple weeks as I'm recovering from a bike accident on Main Street.

Definitely. Now, the Cambridge-side sections:

from the Eliot Bridge to JFK Street
from River Street to the BU Boathouse

as well as the Boston-side section:

at Cambridge Street, and the...

Agreed. The point of my post wasn't to complain, but rather make a positive change to improve their product and the "biking in Boston" experience. Let's actually do something (submit feedback to get...

Re: Site in Hub top choice for a soccer stadium

Wouldn't a JFK/UMass stadium be just like Fenway Park or TD Garden? Traffic in those areas is bad at peak times, and the few fans that feel they have to drive end up sitting in traffic and waiting...

Re: Biking in Boston

Given the width of the road and the high bus ridership, there really should be bus lanes along Mass Ave from Albany Street to Albany Street (Boston and Cambridge), with adjacent cycle-tracks the...

Re: Biking in Boston

This is a great point. Ideally, Mass Ave would have been put on a road diet, with one lane of general travel in each direction, an exclusive busway, and adjacent cycle-tracks.

Re: Traffic Disaster Looming in BOSTON

Sadly, just because they are known does not mean they are implemented. Politics, budgets, and special interests often prevent good planning, such as in the "Innovation District."

Example: If...
