Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

No more than any bus shelter on a low-traffic road overnight. Yeah...some vagrants will use 'em as a toilet or leave a needle behind, but that's unremarkably generic urbanity for you.

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

All of the heavy-repair yards/garages (Riverside, Reservoir, Charlestown, Cabot, etc.) have fully-staffed night shifts. Lechmere has its gates locked and gets plenty of patrol coverage from Transit...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Definitely...and they've already made use of some retaining walls on the system with side paths as designated murals. Here's one on the Mattapan Line/Neponset Greenway I snapped this summer. This...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Well, yeah...hard-to-reach places. But even MassHighway will make the rounds during routine bridge inspections with a paint roller and gray paint for overpass abutments that get tagged. In New York...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

T's always, to its credit, been very quick to stamp out graffiti. Boston has never ever tolerated that like NYC has, and that includes rapidness of response when something does get tagged. I don't...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

No...pretty sure MB can have you towed if you use their lot for unauthorized commuter parking, just like any private business. There is no parking planned on any of the renders at any of the...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Not a whole lot of room for that. MB locations all across Eastern MA are packed as hell when everyone's stocking up for a weekend. I've never been to this one, but both Google 2015 and 2016 views...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Can't do that. Once the 73's back under-wire in a few months Cambridge is going to be back to thin, thin vehicle reserves on the TT fleet. On a normal day they have to be supplemented with...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Jeez, don't worry about it. You're truly doing yeoman's work with the photo documentation. It's all good when we get an update, but don't feel like you're under any pressure or obligation to burn...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

The stone markers almost certainly pre-date B&M altogether. Boston & Maine didn't purchase the Eastern RR until 1890, and didn't begin operating the lines as their own until the first version of...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Yes, absolutely certain. It's an indicator for a horn blow. That signage is still used today, with a generic "W" in place of the morse code letter and the "X" suffix still indicating multiple...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Yeah...it's time to pour some asphalt when the 80-year-old trolley tracks (https://goo.gl/maps/EuhuE5cXYpN2) are starting to poke through. The cobblestones will be next to start wrecking mufflers. ...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Yep. They'll probably move that thing a few feet to the side but keep it in the same spot. Doesn't serve any function as a waymarker anymore, but at a likely 130-140 years old it's covered by all...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

All Route 1...in tragic fashion. Historic Aerials shows that block about as densely-settled as what's on the other side of 6th. The transition from residential to industrial was less abrupt before...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Check out the 19th century "whistle post" stone marker in shots #4 and 5 next to the new crossing equipment. Those things signify a thickly-settled area where the engineer has to lay on the horn...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Except...YOU CAN'T HAVE THE CONNECTION. It's impossible to string it together without punitive eminent domain that no one will allow. Therefore, you either throw good money at useless disconnected...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

No, it shouldn't be a long-term goal. Where in our urban manifest destiny does it say that every transit line must have a side path bolted to it hell, high-water, cost-be-damned, with private...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

What EGE said. Look at that last set of pictures around Washington Ave.:

Commuter rail + busway + power lines w/necessary side access to the towers = literally not an inch to spare.

Eastern...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Not out there. There's absolutely nowhere to graft a path onto through Chelsea or along the Chelsea River and mouth of Mystic River with all the tanker terminals. Nor is there any way to plow...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Something tells me less of those glass window thingies and angular shelter structures, more of the consistent prefab fixtures like they've standardized on for most post-1995 CR platform...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

No way are you doing a grade crossing at that angle. 1000% no, never will be allowed.

Second...it's two freight round trips, not one. Both Pan Am and CSX have individual daily jobs serving...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Nope. Those are GLX new-construction design guidelines only. The B has a sustained grade of 10-12% for the 2 blocks around Summit Ave., and the Kenmore incline is even steeper as a single-point...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

There's plenty of room, but you have to switch sides of the ROW from south side to north side at 2nd because of the Everett Terminal freight spur. On BRT that means big honking flyover ramps that'll...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Mr. Wynn might disagree with you there. He's already licking his chops at being able to fork an addendum to this route down Beacham St. to get quickly between the Mall terminus and the casino's...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

It doesn't have to make perfect sense vs. available technology. That's the letter of the regs. The only point that matters is that the FRA has not made a formal statement on taking up a motion to...
