Re: Congestion toll in Boston?

I think you can look this from another angle. Really, something as complex as transportation systems needs to be looked at from many angles.

The point of adding the congestion charge is to deter...

Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

Iím not sure it matters what was intended or even what the facts are. It is very hard to put that genie back into the bottle. Would you want to be the guy saying ďNo no, the last time we did this...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

She at least introduced the concept to the conversation. I donít see anything wrong with that. Should no city councilor say anything about the T just because it is out of their jurisdiction? Frankly...

Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

Except that the ramp was recently tested and dismissed as non-viable. The merge was deemed unsafe. That dream is over. The SL dream is over.

Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

Yes, just brand the surface route as "Logan Express - South Station" and leave SL1 exactly the way it is. We can simply add a "Logan Express" icon to the MBTA spider map to indicate that is it...

Re: Echelon Seaport | 133-135 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

I think its not quite as bad as you say. I see things picking up for everyone these days. Unemployment is low. Wages are rising. I can hardly hire anyone because everyone else is hiring too. Granted...

Re: Echelon Seaport | 133-135 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

Basic fiscal policy, which we all learned in Econ 101, is to collect extra tax revenue when the economy is growing (effectively putting the brakes on growth, just a little) and spend more during...

Re: MIT East Campus - Kendall Square Gateway | Cambridge

Man, looking at that it really highlights how badly Kendall needs some attention in the upcoming bus network redesign. There is so much density there with no significant bus service at all.

Re: The Boston "what if" thread

I'm not sure a park would be needed for most of it. It all depends on if the streets would be wide enough for cut and cover. Much like the RLX to Alewife, probably deep bore would be the way to go to...

Re: The Boston "what if" thread

Let's assume that if Cambridge couldn't stop the interstate, that they also couldn't stop there being proper exits to Cambridge. (Have you ever noticed that the 90 and 93 exits "to Cambridge"...

Re: The Boston "what if" thread

Grass and plazas are not necessary for this type of security. Draper has as high of security as it gets and while their buildings aren't exactly paragons of urban design, they aren't actively hostile...

Re: MXD II | 325 Main St. | Kendall Square

The residential building will be adjacent to the new Akamai building on Broadway (MXD phase 1, nearly complete). It will be built above the existing Kendall Center Blue Garage.

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

It is missing about 300,000 pounds of people who would normally be on it. Iím genuinely not sure if that is significant or not.

Re: Downtown Crossing

There is nothing trivial about redesigning between open and closed offices. I donít see anything WeWork is doing as substantially different from any other interior buildout. Itíll be a ďtrendĒ only...

Re: archBOSTON Update: A New Dawn

Did you read Briv's last post? He's delusional and he deleted all discussion of how badly he dropped the ball because he is embarrassed by his performance.

To be honest, I was just a little upset...

Re: Suffolk Downs Redevelopment

I strongly agree. Interspersing jobs and homes spreads the transportation load and creates more dense urbanized areas. It creates an argument too for a more network oriented transit system. When all...

Re: Annexation

It cuts both ways. On one hand, Cambridge doesn't have an interstate through it. On the other, Arlington doesn't have a subway running through it. Sometimes hyperlocal government "saves" a community...

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I think the constraints matter a lot. On a typical section of SCP you can put your bicycle tire within inches of the edge of the paving because you have plenty of "elbow room" if you will. When you...

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

There are some reasonable points in here, but there is a lot of nonsense too. It is hard to parse. Most significantly, you didn't actually provide any support for why 10 feet of path is sufficient,...
