Re: Kenmore Square North

Further back in the thread there is a graphic that labels that render as the Sept 25 version and the latest is the Oct 30 version... I think the sequence is partly intended to show the facades are...

Re: Kenmore Square North

Well, it is certainly a lost opportunity on many fronts... at this point it is a lost cause it seems.

I hope that Citgo goes belly up and the brand goes away and we get a defunct sign that...

Re: General Boston Discussion.

Preliminary cost estimates quoted by politicians in old dollars are not "quotes" in the construction sense. I agree in some sense there were cost overruns, but $3 billion represents a congressional...

Replace the Citgo sign with a Boston Red Sox sign.

Re: Amazon HQ2 selected - and not Boston

For a few minutes there NPR/Reuters was reporting Nashville... I thought maybe Amazon was just messing with the press a bit more. Which I suppose they sort of were. It is amazing to what lengths...

Re: Suffolk Downs Redevelopment

I was thinking all things being equal, such as executive pay, then having more efficient businesses should create more wealth overall. So at least creating the opportunity for more and/or higher...

Re: Encore Boston Harbor Casino | Everett

A well done pedestrian bridge (with continuity on both sides along the harbor/river) would really be key to tying together the urban fabric of this area. Hope it happens sooner rather than later. ...

Re: Suffolk Downs Redevelopment

Well what were warehouse distribution jobs like before Bezos and Amazon?

Because theoretically higher productivity means more wealth creation which at least creates the potential for more people...

Re: Suffolk Downs Redevelopment

I think if Amazon had said we are looking to locate 5,000 to 10,000 jobs in or around 3 or 4 major cities they would have gotten as big of a response also. Those are still huge numbers and a big win...

Re: Suffolk Downs Redevelopment

Seems like a great outcome for Boston if we could get a couple thousand more jobs in Kendall and/or in proximity to the Seaport as a third or fourth city on the list. I don't care about labels.......

Re: Assembly Row (Assembly Sq Redevelopment) | Assembly Square | Somerville

Google maps makes that a 30 minute walk... so nobody is walking from there especially along that route the way it is now. 7 minute Uber or 10 minute bike ride which are both doable. Need that...

Yes, was just reading that on Wikipedia. Washington Allston.

Re: BU Data Sciences Center | 665 Commonwealth Avenue | BU Central

Intersting. I wonder if "Allston" started as a contraction of "Almost Boston" .. Al'ston.

Edit: Although someone on Wikipedia thinks it was named after Washington Allston who painted a painting...

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

I like it for the most part. It breaks up the superblock in interesting ways and alludes to the old garden that once stood there. The lack of "cohesiveness" is actually what I think makes it work. ...

Re: Encore Boston Harbor Casino | Everett

The old part of the power plant should be redeveloped and casino money would be the only conceivable way to make it happen in our lifetimes.

The newer part of the station shouldn't be shutdown. ...

Re: Kenmore Square North

Never! I'd take a big honkin' Red Sox sign over the Citgo=murder sign any day of the week, especially on a Tuesday where the Red Sox are in the World Series and Citgo ain't.

Re: New England Electrical Grid

This has more to do with the long running battle that the Democratic Party (State Legislature, Maura Healey) and environmentalist allies have been waging to restrain the growth of natural gas...

Re: Suffolk Downs Redevelopment

I hope Suffolk Downs eventually lives up to the vision put forward in the HQ2 and HYM proposals. I just don't think it was a good fit proposal for Amazon HQ2.

Suffolk ticked a bunch of boxes...

Re: Site in Hub top choice for a soccer stadium

Bottom line there are maybe a couple dozen different...

Re: Site in Hub top choice for a soccer stadium

Some cities subsidize stadiums because of supposed economic benefits... but last I checked a stadium for even a major sport had about the net economic benefit of a large movie theater. Which is to...

Re: Kenmore Square North

I think most people would probably be happy to see the Citgo sign replaced with a big Boston Red Sox circle logo on a sign in approximately the same location and of approximately the same size. Now...

Re: MIT Stephen A. Schwarzman College of Computing

Agreed, but I like the idea of reaching across the tracks with a building like building 46. There is a surface lot at 139 Mass ave and some space on the other side next to some older facilities. ...
