Re: Liberty Mutual plans major Boston expansion

I reserve final judgment until the facade is done and the building is complete, but I am beginning to think that the Fatiron may turn out better than I had feared based on the stilted perspective...

Re: What would you do to get the T out of its financial mess?

Data, let me know if you end up with time to kill and would like suggestions as to a light-rail tour itinerary of Zuri. Obviously lots of other cities in Europe handle streetcars better than Boston...

Re: What would you do to get the T out of its financial mess?

Respectfully, Data, I suggest that you spend some time in other cities that run light rail in mixed traffic without incident. The area around the Bahnhofquai in Zurich makes Huntington look like a...

Re: What would you do to get the T out of its financial mess?

The elimination of weekend E line service between Brigham Circle and Heath really rankles. As you correctly note, F-Line, this has bupkus to do with budget and everything to do with the T's...

Re: Liberty Mutual plans major Boston expansion

The former Charter School (Edison building) will be apartments, not condos ... and interior demo work is already underway. Sadly, the proposal for a boutique hotel at the property on Arlington...

Re: Filene's

One Charles is amazingly awkward both top and bottom. Bad as the streetscape is, the huge blank brick gymnasium wall at the top, visible as you drive down Stuart Street toward South Station, must be...

Re: Downtown Crossing

As you consider "what if?" options that relate to the sidewalks and retail storefront options on Tremont, bear in mind that retail is as low-key as it is because that's the way that ToC residents...

Re: Hayward Place

Sicilian is dead right on this.

For another smaller-scale example (not to stray too far from Hayward Place, but it's a few blocks away) take 212 Stuart Street, the former Jae's Restaurant.

This...

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower

I'd strongly recommend that those in favor of this project who live in the Back Bay pick up pen (or keyboard) to write Marty Walz.

As we well know from other squabbles, Ms Walz has been the...

Re: Pike/Storrow Usage/Capacity?

Charlie's solution strikes me as the simplest and best. I'm not convinced that you really need the westbound on ramp ... there are other entrance points from the Back Bay and South End to the...

Re: Mass Art Dormitory

Would this project have been allowed under State Law were the anti-shadows legislation to have passed? My assumption is no, as Mass Art must cast at least a sliver of a shadow on a corner of the...

Re: New "Anti-Shadow" Laws Proposed for Boston

They are baaaaack! Here's an email message I recently received as a member of the "Friends of the Public Garden." I'm retracting the contact details.

The Friends of the Public Garden has joined...

Re: Menino to appoint Peter Meade director of BRA

There was a bit reported in the Courant a couple of issues back that I wished I had saved that is a good illustration of the way the BRA deals with the neighborhoods. This concerned the W hotel, but...

Re: Government Center Renovation

You are correct, Stellar, the Amsterdam North-South Metro is a fiasco. It's five years behind schedule and currently slotted at 3x the original budget (although the original budget, at under E1 Bn...

Re: T construction news

In other news, the T has now put up the signs for "bus replacement" (they are addicted to this, I guess because it must provide a lot of relatively low-skilled jobs) from North Station to Lechmere...

Re: Government Center Renovation

Good grief, people, if you are accepting the T's "we need at least three years because we don't know what's up with the utilities" line of argument, I've got a viaduct or two that I'd like to sell...

Re: Government Center Renovation

I'm afraid I don't follow the above comments.

I agree that the T funding is a shambles and I'd support moves by the legislature to shore that up, even if that meant some painful "revenue increase"...

Re: Government Center Renovation

Honestly, I had to read that article twice to make sure that it wasn't dated April 1. But it's not April Fool's, it's just the usual T fools.

Every T project drags on forever and runs way over...

Re: Liberty Mutual plans major Boston expansion

Shen is totally shameless. I understand that he has to keep in Menino's good graces, but this ought to be possible without insulting anyone who is paying attention.

Re: 128 development thread

Ron, we've disagreed about use of the breakdown lane before and we'll have to continue to disagree.

I understand not wanting to solve every problem with more pavement. And sometimes congestion...

Re: Liberty Mutual plans major Boston expansion

The scary thing is that this isn't the first time that it's been left to more reasonable neighborhood residents to make obvious points about streetscape and urbanity on projects executed or proposed...

Re: W Hotel

Briv's critique is right on the money. This could have been a fantastic building ... instead it's only OK. And the evidence suggests that it's not Rawn's fault, somewhere along the way the careful...

Re: Harvard Memorial Dr. Housing

Good grief, more misplaced Sert worship.

The Holyoke Center is an awkward, compromised building even today, but anyone who knows the history of that building knows that it was a windswept bunker...

Re: Harvard Memorial Dr. Housing

I really don't understand the continued fawning over Kyu Sung Woo ... or Sert, for that matter.

Sure, this effort is much better than the truly awful housing project he threw up at Northeastern. ...

Re: Boston College Master Plan debut

Have there ever been two more disappointing "change" candidates than Yoon and Flaherty? The former has fallen all over himself in support of money-wasting police details - the latter has positioned...
