Re: Portland Bayside

based on the PPH article a few weeks ago, it sounded like they intended to get their permits before their planning approval expires (which I believe is March 24th) the bigger question is whether they...

Re: MY TOP 15 NEW ENGLAND CITIES

As we recently discussed in the "Portland, ME New Construction" thread, the amount of development going on in Portland right now surpasses any other city in New England outside of Boston. I would...

Re: Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

It's only a matter of time until we get another 10+ story proposal. The peninsula is quickly running out of easilly buildable empty space. Vacancy rates remain low and land values keep climbing. The...

Re: Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

Tell us more about this conversation :p

If anything would kill this project, it's the huge influx of hotel rooms going in elsewhere. With everything under construction and in the pipeline, I can't...

Re: Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

Asside from the two parking garages (Midtown and MaineMed) nonthing currently in the works is over 6 stories. The last 6+ story building to go up was 665 Congress St. which was completed in early...

Currently under construction

Re: Portland Bayside

you beat me by a minute :p

It sounds like they're trying to get some kind of expedited permit review so that they can break ground before their planning approval expires.

Doesn't seem like...

Re: Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

Not to my knowlege. In fact, I don't even think it's gone through the planning process. The impression I got from the MaineBiz article is that Vets First Choice plans to build a standalone structure.

Re: Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

I agree, almost sounds suburban. Maybe their definition of "on peninsula" extends out to that nearly empty technology park out by exit 47 :p :p

Realistically though, the peninsula is running out...

Something else to keep an eye on:

Vets First Choice plans to build a $20 million headquarters somewhere on the peninsula.

Re: Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

Retail space on the ground floor. Interesting

Not a great location for retail honestly, but maybe they're counting on the Franklin St. Rebuild to attract more pedestrians to that area in the...

Re: Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

Based on a 1923 map of Portland, Spring St. went only as far as Cross St.

Also looks like Cross St. went uninterrupted from Commercial all the way up to Free St. Today it's cut in two by Portland...

Re: Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

If I can recall my Portland history correctly, the "new" Thames St. Is a call back to one of the original streets when Portland was still called Falmouth Neck. It was what is now the eastern segment...

Re: Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

Definitely agree. The current design seems too much like a suburban hotel. They aren't making good use of the space, specifically along Middle St.

That's the Portland Square complex. That would definitely make an ideal spot for a convention center / tower (although it would add to the problems along that already choked part of Commercial St.)...

Re: Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

I have a hunch that any proposal there would probably end up being scaled down to the 10-15 range to appease NIMBY interests, especially so close to the Old Port. Same goes for Portland Square.
