Re: Suffolk U dorm (Ames Hotel)

I still see that trade off as really bad.

Yes, we need student housing (including higher end).

Yes, we need hotel rooms.

But they should not be cannibalizing each other. That is just bad...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

I second the agreement with bigpicture7. The information needs to be actionable for T riders.

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

I am firmly in this camp as well. I really want them to succeed. But at times, I feel they are their own worst enemies.

They also desperately need real communications specialists who understand...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

But you don't actually "know more". You know some excuse. I guess I am surprised anyone finds that comforting?

I think the kind of message people were hoping for is something like:

Red Line is...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Why does the T think that service delay text messages that include a specific problem issue are helpful?

I don't really care that the crap Red Line car has a stuck brake, or a broken door, or a...

Re: Congestion toll in Boston?

For so many reasons in AFC 2.0 the T should be doing tap-in tap-out.

For example, it is the only way to collect accurate point-to-point usage date.

It also enables distance based fares, if ever...

Re: Congestion toll in Boston?

One of the biggest challenges in these public policy issues is that surveys do not actually give you meaningful results. The only way to actually measure price sensitivity is through...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Exactly. And we are always told that we cannot have real overnight service because of "maintenance work".

So have they been doing any overnight shift maintenance work of any real consequence? Or...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

On Essex Street, people travel in the bus lane all the time. Almost more populated with cars and trucks than the other lanes.

Re: Marriott Moxy Hotel | 240 Tremont Street (Parcel P-7A) | Theater District

Seeing the lit Moxy sign at night from the Common is very cool. Can't wait to try the rooftop bar!

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

So this weekend the T has been running a new train set on the Orange Line, including ferrying some T employees between stations.

Good News: new train set running on the line (not revenue service)....

Re: Old Boston Edison Plant | Summer St | South Boston

This is a very valid argument and concern.

But is anything being proposed actually port oriented? I got the impression (potentially wrong) that the proposal is basically an office park that could...

Well, the old Southie mentality would also say, "don't botha with da cleanup, leave da bodies buried where de are."

Re: Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

I totally agree with your sentiment.

But one small correction. The Burnham Building Exterior was preserved, restored.

The interior was completely gutted by Vorando! No Beaus-Arts interior...

Re: Old Boston Edison Plant | Summer St | South Boston

Also, This is very much a brownfield site. It is going to cost millions to clean up the site for any use..

No developer is going to take that on without a significant upside potential. (Cleanup...

Re: Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

I actually don't believe it would work that way, necessarily.

The parcels right on the water's edge don't need great architecture to sell. They have water views.

The parcels away from the...

Re: Encore Boston Harbor Casino | Everett

There are people who like visiting Vegas, and there are people who like visiting Boston.

The overlap of the two groups is pretty close to a null set.

Re: Logan Airport Capital Projects

All of you in the "just rename it" crowd for Terminal E have clearly never been involved in a major relabeling project.

Renaming a terminal, like an E to D change is not trivial, and it is not...

Re: Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail

Actually the Big Dig tunnels do not come out too badly in the crude calculation.

Central Artery carries nominally 200,000 vehicles per day (projected to grow to 245,000 max.)
Ted Williams Tunnel...

The projections are not ours, they are from the project planning documents.

As quoted in Commonwealth magazine:

"Phase 1 as proposed provides this poor level of service at an unreasonably high...

Re: Boston skyways and Underground pedways

Really the entire Pru/Copley Place complex is a pedestrian skyway over the Pike and rail lines. (Way more than just the Huntington Avenue and Stuart Street bridges). The mall complex provides...
