Re: Logan Flight Additions

Turboprops are doing fine in other markets worldwide though, that's largely specific to the US market.

The A380 (obviously) wasn't.

Re: Crazy Airport Pitches

Some opinions/notes:

You can't reuse the Logan property unless your approach to climate change is "nah, it's not going to happen". It's barely above sea level and sea levels are rising. You are...

Re: General Infrastructure

No, just new stormwater drainage improvements (no sewage). Here is a page with a bit more inforrmation.

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Not that I know of?

Proposed station site is also either entirely in or almost entirely in Somerville and not Medford, thanks to weird town lines.

Re: Logan Airport Capital Projects

The proposed design makes charging that impossible, so it appears that is not the intention.

To elaborate:

- The transit connection point is the same stop as the economy garage, so you can't...

Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

I think it's worth asking yourself, "what does this bus do and who does this bus serve?" rather than liking more buses running down a line on a map, regardless of what they're accomplishing.

Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

I liked the Cambridge-side changes to the 64, the varying routing confuses people. And the better service is welcome.

Eliminating the jog it makes in Brighton may not save the time they are...

Re: General Infrastructure

FTA told them that they didn't need to stop the pilot at all while they do the analysis.

Re: I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

And all of those alternatives can be trivially ruled out, especially since a substantial portion of the billion is required regardless for the Pike even if you ignored Storrow/SFR entirely.

Re: I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

Your link seems to be broken for me. Here's a hopefully non-broken one for others: https://willbrownsberger.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Allston-Decision-Memo-01.10.2019-FINAL.pdf

I agree, it's...

Re: Logan Flight Additions

Frequencies/connectivity on a lot of routes seem to be better via BOS.

I'll often put in a destination I have in mind from MHT and have to connect in MDW or BWI to make that trip from there (on...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

So, any opinions on Poftak as the replacement GM?

I've had a decent impression of him from watching some of the FMCB meetings and seeing the sorts of questions he's asked/comments he's made, but...

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I'm more puzzled about some other design choices rather than their aesthetics.

I'm guessing two separate internal teams designed the stairs and the platforms and neither of them have talked to the...

Re: Garage Nightclub Redevelopment | 20 Linden Street | Allston

I don't agree.

Transit is mediocre at best in the area today. $2.5m to "transportation alternatives" in the neighborhood, will accomplish approximately nothing in terms of a measurable increase of...

Re: Green Line proposed platform length

No, we have an experimental vehicle operating in a very limited fashion. Which may or may not ever advance far enough to be of widespread, cost-effective, reliable use.

Re: Green Line proposed platform length

I don't believe anywhere in the world is running automated trains/trams on lines that aren't grade separated.

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Some opinions regarding the current discussion:

- Warren/Allston/Griggs may be close together, but that stretch is fairly high ridership. If you close two of those, you're going to make Warren and...

Re: Logan Airport Capital Projects

I think adding stops defeats the entire point of Logan Express, which is a fast ride to the airport as reliable and quick as if you're driving yourself from that area, and with the cars being stored...

Re: Logan Airport Capital Projects

Yes. As well as paying for a portion of the physical buses used for the Silver Line.

In fact, Massport/MBTA collaborations were the subject of a FMCB presentation this week, and can be seen here:...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

If they can't reopen it for tomorrow/Friday, it's going to be an impressive disaster over there.

PAX East begins tomorrow. And Michelle Obama is speaking at the Seaport Hotel.

That's already in progress. BU West, St Paul, Babcock and Pleasant are being consolidated into 2 stations instead of 4.

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

Multiple projects. They're basically rebuilding much of the existing yard, expanding the yard with new tracks, expanding the building (as Equilibria noted), and renovating the existing building.

Re: Summer St. Gondola

I continue to not actually be a proponent of it, but I will poke holes in weak arguments:

The fixed cost of operating a gondola is basically nothing in comparison with a bus. It really doesn't...

Re: Summer St. Gondola

I know nothing about ADA details, but I can tell you how boarding the handicapped works at ski areas: They ask the operator to slow or stop the lift (or if it's obvious they'll need it, the operator...

Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

Pretty heavy user of the 57 reporting:

It's exactly where it's needed.

Take a look at the delay in that stretch in this presentation:...
