Re: Design a Better Lot

This area technically has a name - "Milk Square"

I agree that this is plenty close to Union that it should pop with the GLX plan we already have. It is in the Union Square neighborhood development...

Re: Volpe Transportation Center Development | Kendall Sq | Cambridge

No strong feelings about this building one way or the other, but MAN do I hate that ďparking court.Ē Iím sure there is some bizarre combination of federal policies that makes it necessary to be right...

That sounds reasonable.

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

As long as we are in the crazy thread... I donít hate this. Build your CR stop, but also do a GLX2 from Union via Porter with a terminus at New Alewife. That ROW is far from all the RL...

Re: Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

Schuylkill Yards in Philly - 14 acres and 7 million square feet right next to 30th street station (3rd busiest train station in the US). I don't know if that is quite big enough to call a...

Re: Somerville Developments

I think the policy I would like is for the city to support slow and steady growth and development. If itís not quite possible to have slow and continuous development over time, then at least embrace...

Re: Somerville Developments

Its a bunch of generalizations without support or substance. Its not even anecdotal, because he hasn't been there to share a personal experience. How do you draw a distinction between some "old...

Why would you want that? Is so horrible to walk on the street?

Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

I think a shuttle just pinging back and forth between West Station and North Station is more likely than routing whole Worcester trains to North Station.

Re: Future Skylines/Developments of the US

Don't you think that aptly describes New York? It has downtown, midtown, arguably Hudson yards is distinct from midtown from many angles, downtown Brooklyn, Long Island city, and jersey city. The...

Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

I don't think what they've shown exactly precludes or undermines an incremental approach. They costed the alternatives at full-build, but I think it goes without saying that it won't be built in a...

Re: Congestion toll in Boston?

I think you can look this from another angle. Really, something as complex as transportation systems needs to be looked at from many angles.

The point of adding the congestion charge is to deter...

Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

Iím not sure it matters what was intended or even what the facts are. It is very hard to put that genie back into the bottle. Would you want to be the guy saying ďNo no, the last time we did this...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

She at least introduced the concept to the conversation. I donít see anything wrong with that. Should no city councilor say anything about the T just because it is out of their jurisdiction? Frankly...

Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

Except that the ramp was recently tested and dismissed as non-viable. The merge was deemed unsafe. That dream is over. The SL dream is over.

Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

Yes, just brand the surface route as "Logan Express - South Station" and leave SL1 exactly the way it is. We can simply add a "Logan Express" icon to the MBTA spider map to indicate that is it...

Re: Echelon Seaport | 133-135 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

I think its not quite as bad as you say. I see things picking up for everyone these days. Unemployment is low. Wages are rising. I can hardly hire anyone because everyone else is hiring too. Granted...

Re: Echelon Seaport | 133-135 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

Basic fiscal policy, which we all learned in Econ 101, is to collect extra tax revenue when the economy is growing (effectively putting the brakes on growth, just a little) and spend more during...

Re: MIT East Campus - Kendall Square Gateway | Cambridge

Man, looking at that it really highlights how badly Kendall needs some attention in the upcoming bus network redesign. There is so much density there with no significant bus service at all.

Re: The Boston "what if" thread

I'm not sure a park would be needed for most of it. It all depends on if the streets would be wide enough for cut and cover. Much like the RLX to Alewife, probably deep bore would be the way to go to...

Re: The Boston "what if" thread

Let's assume that if Cambridge couldn't stop the interstate, that they also couldn't stop there being proper exits to Cambridge. (Have you ever noticed that the 90 and 93 exits "to Cambridge"...
