Re: Official City Hall Plaza Proposals

I sort of get how selling (or even leasing) the "open, public space' around the edge of CHP would be a political nightmare. But if they could somehow order up some rendering showing people how it...

Re: General Infrastructure

People routinely ignore the large shouty men with a gun, badge and the legal authority to put them in jail. I'm sure a burger flipper will certainly get people to move along quickly and efficiently.

A quick google search tells me you are correct. Thanks.

Re: Official City Hall Plaza Proposals

So CHP is surrounded by chain link fence and black netting. Are they starting this project or setting up for another event?

I assume it is construction because usually they forgo the netting if...

Thanks for the update.

How is traffic during rush hour?

Re: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial | Boston Common | Downtown

I actually agree with this but I'm not going to draw the line as soon as folks like MLK start being recognized.

Maybe once more balance has been achieved (that will take a while) we can start...

Re: East Boston Developments

Which is the most baffling thing.

I guess the idea is that parking enforcers don't have to start knocking on doors to ask if that car is "allowed" to be there? I can't think of any other reason...

Re: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial | Boston Common | Downtown

It should be given a place of honor in a locked closet in a subbasement of the MFA or the MHS.

Re: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial | Boston Common | Downtown

I disagree, but I am curious why they had Ty Burr do the critique rather than Campbell.

Re: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial | Boston Common | Downtown

Yes. The idea that this memorial should be polite and deferential isn't great.

Re: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial | Boston Common | Downtown

I'm pretty sure that is going to be the winner. It's the Common so people are going to want a more 'traditional' (i.e. literal) sculpture, plus it seems to require the least amount of landscape...

Re: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial | Boston Common | Downtown

I have no idea why I thought the bridge was on Park Street. It is very clearly Beacon even in the first render.

The second render confirmed it as my top pick.

Re: Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

I miss the MIT pranks. I feel like there hasn't been a good one in a while.

Re: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial | Boston Common | Downtown

I can't imagine a large grass-root effort to oppose a memorial to MLK will get a lot of traction in Boston. Even to say 'it is too grand' is kind of a bad look.

Personally, I like the bridge...

Re: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial | Boston Common | Downtown

I'm curious how people are going to react to these proposals. On one hand, the Common is considered sacred space in this city, so this type of monumental change would normally be doomed. On the other...

Proposed Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial | Boston Common | Downtown

So apparently this is going to be a lot more than just a simple statue.

If anyone can find some sources aside from this Globe article, it would be much appreciated.

Finalists in MLK memorial...

Re: What's Happening With Project X?

Is that terrible renovation of Quincy Market still in permitting, on hold or dead?
Please say dead.

Also wasn't there something planned to go in the old Houston's restaurant space?

Re: Downtown Crossing

What it needs is a group of signature bars/restaurants *on* Washington St. Every food place on the main drag is either fast casual or lunch places (plus the Corner Mall *rolleyes*).

Re: Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

I would say that Back Bay has been totally badass from as far back as the late 1800's, but that's just me.

Re: Kenmore Square North

I think I would be fine with the Citgo sign if we had some other landmark that was more meaningful, more well known and the sign was just some Red Sox fan thing like the Green Monster.

I hate...

Re: Kenmore Square North

No offense BB but that is almost exactly why I dislike the Citgo sign so much. Every other icon on my list has some sort of larger cultural significance. Our is, "Well, I can see it really well from...
