Re: Boston Skyline Photos

It would have been nice to have some height variation in the new buildings. The monolithic mass reminds me of Pentagon City in Virginia. But at least the area is filling in.

Re: North Washington St Bridge

Absolutely true. In SF they tore down a stub freeway that went nowhere. In contrast, Boston's Central Artery is the sole north-south expressway through the city, tying together several...

Re: Bulfinch Crossing Residential Tower (GCG Phase I) | 50 Sudbury St | Gov't Center

I wish more of the garage were coming down. Seems like a small bite.

Re: North Washington St Bridge

On the southern end of the span, it's really tight for an adjacent temporary bridge. I do think a one-lane temporary bridge for emergency vehicles only could fit in, and is necessary given the...

Re: North Washington St Bridge

Totally agree, visually but also from a historical context. This locale, including the existing bridge, has always had an industrial grittiness. How about a nod to the history and feel of the...

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Because the O'Neill is a federally owned building, there is no funding available to do the much-needed reclad. Hopefully it can be sold and the services therein relocated to a place handy to rail...

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

They need to paint a mural of a 19th century brick building facade onto the O'Neill.

Re: Cambridge Developments

I liked the old original look much better. This one looks like the building dropped some acid.

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Looks like four billboards on the left side of the building.

But all kidding aside, the design looks like a pile of disparate crap randomly thrown together.

Re: Flickr Finds

Newtowne Court in the foreground. ^

I used to go there after school for art lessons back around 1961, 6th or 7th grade. It was a huge factory district at that time.

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

Deep-bored and Red Line type cars: it would be like the new Crossrail line almost finished in London.

Re: Crazy Airport Pitches

Agree 100% with the above. The other option, expansion into the harbor, would run into 4f issues, as the islands are pretty much all park land.

Re: Building Ideas

With all the oddball, white elephant buildings in GC, this is probably the one place in Boston where a tower of this type wouldn't look out of place.

That being said, my wish for this area is very...

Re: Building Ideas

Nice rendering work. It's nice to see a seawall concept depicted in a realistic looking rendering.

Re: I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

Actually I agree with you. Why not just put the westbound Mass Pike lanes on a viaduct in the same location I show the westbound tunnel, and slip SFR under that viaduct? I read that the concern...

Re: I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

A tunnel section through the Throat for the Pike would have been perfect, IMO.

My idea is to tunnel the westbound lanes of the Mass Pike, and shift SFR onto it as shown here:

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Chicago is the city of the big shoulders, and these projects you linked to are an heir to that heritage. Boston has been a bit prissy and provincial by comparison.

The two closest towers in this...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

It would be called the Rose Kennedy Greenway Extension, all the way from South Station to Braintree at a cost of about $90 billion.

Re: Boston - Most Embarrassing Blight That Tourists See

Re: Downtown Crossing

The 4th floor's little pointy roof looks like they picked it up on sale from Home Depot.
