Re: Pier 4 Condo Building (Former Anthony's site) | Seaport

15 minute walks to trains is fine now for urban cores? I was making a joke, of course Stamford isn't better than what's basically downtown, but no way.

There's also the Silver Line but that's just...

Re: Pier 4 Condo Building (Former Anthony's site) | Seaport

Stamford is already by the sea, except unlike the seaport there's actual rail service there.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

I was also a fan of the Accordia proposal. My only critique of that was that architects need to stop showing unrealistic trees in tower renderings. For one, high places are inhospitable to the kinds...

Re: Assembly Sq <-> Casino Footbridge

I think not turning the underpass of 93 along Ten Hills into a park is a decent missed opportunity for Somerville. An excellent local precedent is what Landing Studio did at Infra-space 1, which used...

Re: Hood Business Park | 480-570 Rutherford Avenue | Charlestown

I know next to nothing about real estate finance so I guess I believe them but going from concert venue to parking garage stings.

lol

Jokes aside, I do like The Mystic and do think it's simple, elegant and intriguing.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

I can't believe I'm being this guy but a major contributor to 133 Federal's ugliness is its stubbiness. If it were taller at least its proportions would lend to its muscular tectonics. It'd look more...

Re: Amazon HQ2 RFP

I think you're right that we could do this on the best days. But as an OL commuter I'm not as optimistic. A train carries about 1000 people, so even if we're talking about a couple of extra trains...

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Defense of people like Wynn is more embarrassing than 9/11 trutherism. When did we learn to stop applying Occam's Razor? Is this really the most straightforward narrative you can construct from these...

Re: Amazon HQ2 RFP

With respect, no way. Maintenance of the status quo (constant delays on the major transit lines, inability to deal with routine winter weather, constant peak congestion of the major roadways into the...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

If only cities could have their own express pool, only maybe with even larger vehicles for more efficiency! Too far-fetched.

Ridesharing services are just as good and not-good as private cars,...

Re: Julie Hall | Brookline Ave | Emanuel College | Fenway

Very strange lack of cornice on the lower volume, makes it seems like its top is chopped off. Ann Beha did a similar thing in the new dorm at NEC off Huntington; what gives?

Re: Malden + Melrose

This is a site with 5 minute bus service to Malden Ctr, and a not unpleasant walk on more temperate days. It's tucked out of the way. I could understand not wanting to add traffic to the Fellsway E,...

Re: Parking Permits

I'm for the permit fee, but I think we should get plowed roads regardless by virtue of it being in the city's and everyone's best interest. Parking vandalism is real, low visibility around corners...

Re: 50 Liberty @ Fan Pier | 50 Liberty Drive | Seaport

Put me down on the tacky side with the marble. It's out of place. There's no sense of tectonics or weight (therefore 'constructedness' or 'solidity') because it's applied like two-dimensional...

Re: Kenmore Square North

Again, I don't think it's anything special but I have no confidence in the collective crop of developers/architects dominant in this cycle to replace it with something of equal or greater beauty. No...

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

lol at people who insist there's such a thing as 'without politics'. Every act is a political act. Every project has political implications, the same way it has economic implications, the same way it...

Re: Nominations: ArchBoston Biggest Urban Planning Disaster

These would be my top two as well. Sullivan Sq seems due for its day in the sun, and can still be fixed. But the Seaport was just an utter failure. At some point, a city is going to have to spend...

Re: Best Boston Skyscrapers (besides Hancock)

I love 225 Franklin (the Old State Street building). It's not iconic, but it's a solid, nicely resolved example of its type. There are cities where every single building is an icon. Wouldn't want to...

Re: Quaker Lane + Congress Square | Downtown

It's not done yet, give it some time. Though, they're definitely going to be covering up the undersides right? Leaving the decking exposed like that would be criminal.

Re: Kenmore Square North

Chiming in to support preservation of the corner building. It's not especially beautiful or remarkable but I'd bet my meager life savings it's better than whatever would replace it. Misaligned...
