Re: New England Electrical Grid

That Vox article is misleading where it claims Pilgrim is better than a variable renewable; Pilgrim can't reliably run at full power during the summer peak because the cooling water it pulls from...

Re: New England Electrical Grid

By any chance, do you happen to have typed this while being physically located less than a mile away from the Fukushima power plant?

I think we agree that replacing nuclear with natural gas is...

Re: New England Electrical Grid

My understanding is that flooding land to create hydro storage can end up adding carbon to the atmosphere with all the plant matter it destroys and causes to decay, but once you've flooded the area,...

Re: Bridge to Orange Line connection

How does the elevation of the bridge at the center of the river compare with the elevation of the Assembly Orange Line headhouse where it crosses the tracks?

It seems like the option to put the...

Re: Highway Underpass Parks

Are you arguing that all the effort that went into the Lynch Family Skatepark (http://www.thecharles.org/projects-and-programs/skate-park/) was wasted and no one is interested in using that space?

Re: Green Line Reconfiguration

Maybe Warren St to the east edge of the Brighton High School lot then through a driveway / parking lot to the Washington St / Monestery Rd intersection and then along Washington St to a terminus a...

Re: Green Line Reconfiguration

Every B branch stop out to Washington St seems to have pretty strong ridership, and then ridership drops off except for the BC stop. That suggests that if you thought you could keep all the trains...

Re: C branch express

Would it be particularly expensive?

It's probably going to be desirable to rebuild a lot of those platforms in the near future to address ADA issues and perhaps to try to move stops to the far...

Re: Green Line Reconfiguration

If we go to 4.5 minute headways on B and inner D with 9 minute headways on C and E, we could perhaps have Riverside get 9 minute headways and BC via Reservoir get 9 minute headways with 4.5 minute...

Re: MBTA bus 60

Between Jefferson Rd and Reservoir Rd, coming closer to Route 9 might be more useful. If you start at the Jefferson / 9 intersection and proceed along 9 in the eastbound direction for about 600...

Re: Natural Gas (LNG, Pipelines, & Distribution)

I believe a good air source heat pump at 0F still has a COP better than 2, which means that if you can power it with a combined cycle natural gas plant, the heat pump plus combined cycle natural gas...
