Re: Chelsea Creek Rails-to-Tollway

At the very least the idea of charging trucks to use a road when there is a free road literally feet away seems like an idea that should have never gotten out of someones mouth. It just sounds like...

Re: Unbuilt roads around metro Boston

IIRC it had something to do with not wanting the flyovers. But I'm sure that was just normal pushback and the state just didn't want to commit the funds.

Re: Chelsea Creek Rails-to-Tollway

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the obvious which is to turn this into a bus only road. You've got half a dozen north shore bus lines running down 1A/60, not to mention the others which end at...

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

Just to play devil's advocate... they couldn't have used any other track?

I feel like I totally missed the conversation about this. What is this track?

Re: Unbuilt roads around metro Boston

Let's keep this on roads and not rails. We have plenty of other threads for that.

Re: Unbuilt roads around metro Boston

More likely it would just funnel more traffic down them. The Inner Belt just moved traffic around the core but drivers were still trying to get to Cambridge and Back Bay. They still would have used...

Re: Unbuilt roads around metro Boston

Holy crap, I've been looking for this document since I first ever found out about the unbuilt highways. Thank you!

Re: One Kenmore Square | 560 Commonwealth Avenue | Kenmore Square

If we are moving the portal just build it out to Packards Corner and call it a day.

Re: Unbuilt railroads

Jeeze, that would have turned Boston into something like Chicago as a sorting hub. Not that Boston would have ever seen the traffic for it.

Re: NYC Architecture and Development

If it was in midtown I wouldn't care but there it really sticks out... not to mention it's a crystal tower for the 1% surrounded by public and low income housing. It's a giant fuck you to the...

Re: The Boston "what if" thread

Highways are terrible paths for transit and were only suggested in the past due to the high costs of ROW acquisition. Highways traditionally go around commercial centers while transit needs to go...

Re: Ode to Brutalism

I have seriously thought about a big City Hall tattoo, something from one of the old elevation drawings.

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

The problem with this argument is that you are finding two points which might not have all that much connection and drawing a line between them. I'm not saying there is NO transit viability in...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Why tho? Most workers in Kendall live relatively close to Kendall and especially aren't coming in from Worcester. West Station does have merit but GJ just seems like an excuse to spend money. It's...

Re: Ode to Brutalism

Looks like the plaza at everyone's favorite building has been renovated and reopened. I'm glad they chose an architect who could appreciate Rudolph's vision.

Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

And the cycle continues. When gas prices started getting high about a decade ago you saw calls for better transit. Now that it's cheaper again everyone forgot about it. This country still prioritizes...

Re: Amtrak / Regional Rail Discussion Thread

Keep in mind that the new Berkshire Flyer would be used primarily by downstate residents to reach their country homes. So it's not like NYS wouldn't be pissing away money for another state.

Re: Roxbury parcels 9 & 10 | Melnea Cass Blvd | Roxbury

A bland box with useless open space. At Alewife I groan but here it's just everything wrong with how we plan American cites. Haven't updated the zoning codes in 60 years? No problem as long as there...
