Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

And that, my friends, is the very definition of the bait and switch.

Let’s see if Walsh has. Any. Cajones. At. All.

Re: Providence developments

I'd modify that to:
"If Providence wants to be considered anything other than a totally failed wasteland, it has to have a modicum of pride."

Not demolishing your most iconic building doesn't...

Re: The Huntington | 252, 258, and 264 Huntington Avenue

<pipe-dream rant> Can't they demolish Symphony Towers and build this thing on one (or, hell, both) of their lots?

Then we'd actually have this providing a net positive - versus a net negative - to...

Re: 14 West Broadway | South Boston

^^ I particularly enjoyed The World's Most Uncomfortable Sofa in the first photo above. Fit for a Lego Man.

Re: 171 Tremont Street | Downtown

^ That is a nice red-meat story, but it's fictive. We have no idea who would have actually bought these apartments, but that version of events seems more improbable than not.

And if wealthy...

Re: Worcester Improvements

That is pretty shameful. It shows Worcester has no pride, no sense of place, no historical memory, and no standards. In short, it shows Worcester is unlikely to dig itself out of its current hole any...

Re: 121 Seaport Boulevard | Parcel L2 | Seaport Square

Weeelllll, that's the PR spiel. I'd argue they're only doing that in the most cursory way (and no in any way comparable to what they did for the Vasa, cited above, which was to actually preserve it...

Re: Emerson College - Little Building Addition + Renovation | 80 Boylston St | Downto

Meh... I'm not convinced. Wouldn't that same logic tell us that a significant proportion of Boston (not to mention half the continent of Europe) needs to be deconstructed and replaced with...

Re: Emerson College - Little Building Addition + Renovation | 80 Boylston St | Downto

Jesus, that seems wasteful (and just ludicrous). Wouldn't it be cheaper (and much less an affront to the city's history and aesthetic) to make targeted fixes to any damaged stonework while glassing...

Re: Emerson College - Little Building Addition + Renovation | 80 Boylston St | Downto

You've got to be kidding... And replaced with what, alucobond and glass?

Are they re-using the existing facade elements (after a cleaning)? Is the building in any way protected?

Re: Hotel Tower | 560 Commonwealth Ave | Kenmore Square

Can anyone post details from the article?

The Globe has decided to stop sharing its wisdom with the world (sigh).

Re: Children's Hospital Building | Longwood

Fingers crossed that that's the case. This is a beautiful structure, and let's hope it lives to see another 100 years.

Re: Old Boston Edison Plant | Summer St | South Boston

@ Merrimac - can you post pictures of the buildings you mention as worthy of preservation but slated to be razed under this proposal? thx

Re: Volpe Transportation Center Development | Kendall Sq | Cambridge

MIT has oodles of money and plenty of daring architecture on their campus.

Disappointing they'd have Elkus Manfredi developing this site. They could have gone for something far more interesting.

Re: The Distillery | 516 E. Second St | South Boston

The balconies side looks like a 1960s motor-inn with an extra floor or two stacked on top.

Re: Children's Hospital Building | Longwood

There are so many horrendous buildings, parking garages, surface lots and other underutilized space in Boston (including Longwood) that there is never any reason for a building like this to be lost.

Re: New Residence Hall at New England Conservatory

Will have to check it out in person. In photos it looks gratuitously, needlessly, sadistically hideous.

Re: Offical City Hall Plaza Proposals

What country are your points of comparison in? I've never seen a US "German-style" Christmas market sell any alcohol (other than in a special, closed tent or structure), unfortunately. New York has 3...

Re: Pierce Boston (née The Point )| Boylston St/Brookline Av | Fenway

I may prove to be wrong, but that white wainscoting (shower tiles?) looks like a pretty horrible design decision.

Re: The Huntington | 252, 258, and 264 Huntington Avenue

Wretched development. Aren't we, as a city, supposed to be "past this"? The city still doesn't seem to have got religion on preservation, despite the fact that history and architecture remain the...

Re: Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

The residential building doesn't look like a Pelli. Is it designed by either CBT or Elkus/Manfredi? This building is an unfortunately representative example of the Mismatched Bricolage School of...

Re: MassDOT Pike Parcels 12 - 15 | Boylston St. and Mass. Ave | Back Bay

The first picture in that set makes it look like a 550-foot-tall version of One Marina Park Drive (or some of the other copycats on the lower end of the Seaport architectural food chain).

The same...

Re: Children's Hospital Building | Longwood

I'm all for the expansion (assuming it improves quality and access of care!). But what's up with that crazy weird facadectomy of the entrance columns of the old building?

I'd be all for preserving...

Re: General Electric HQ | 244-284 A Street | Fort Point

This is like the City Hall of our era.

Aside from bringing high-paying jobs into the city, there are 3 positive aspects about the building that come to mind:
1) It's new and shiny, at least for...
