Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

^ Or you can just say (admit) "I don't know." That's a perfectly fine bottom line too, and more productive.

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

Can I ask for the bottom line here too? The bottom line for a question of "When's the last time anyone asked the EPA?" will be a four digit year or a calendar date, and not much more.

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

Please lead with the bottom line next time. You seem to have gotten so caught up in sharing scary images and denouncing insanities that you didn't, until about 10 posts in, get to the bottom line.

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

F-Line, I am proposing a garage that is both on a larger footprint (half-spanning Steel Place) and two levels taller, i.e., having greater capacity than the garage that is currently there. How is...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

^ Yes, I too would write the current Alewife garage off as a failed 40 year old beta test. It taught us a lot about what the site can and cannot support, but has not proven sustainable in general...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

Is that Alewife garage "must remain exactly as now" an engineering answer (like, it is sinking, cracking or demonstrably weak because it is on top of landfill...an actual structural report...

Re: T construction news

Does that bridge from the parking lot allow them to install more (but stub-end / terminal) aerial platforms on the "front" of WOR station?

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

This is crazy pitches. I am probing the boundaries of reasonableness.

Can we get a definitive answer on why Alewife Garage has never gotten its top two levels?* That would greatly clarify its long...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

That Red tunnel that points to Arlington could also carry Green that had turned North from the Fitchburg main (and gotten a new over/under level vs new Red tails out the Fitchburg cutoff)

The Red...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

Perfect.

I'll add that if Lowell Line has been electrified/urban-rail-ified that the GLX from MVP might make sense to go up to Winchester Center but then turn on the half-there alignment out to...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

Let's stipulate:

1) "Greater Alewife" is everything in Cambridge from Mass Ave to Fresh Pond and from Sherman St (Danehy Park) to Brighton St (Belmont Line)

2) Assume Green has come out from...

Re: Educate everyone on a good website...

Thank you to DowntownDave for recommending:
https://newtrains.today/

Which tracks the newly-arriving Green (Type 9), Orange (#14 014xx), and promises to do Red (#4 019xx) when they become...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

I like detail. It gives the impression that they're tracking root causes (and will eventually have the numbers to fix those with the greatest benefit/cost ratio)

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

Restating: So far I don't see any big conflicts:

If the Red needs to go via Alewife to Waltham, it'd go by Fitchburg Cutoff (after nuking the current garage both because the garage sucks (not...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

No need to stress:
F-Line was talking about the Fitchburg Main (currently in use)
You've mapped the Fitchburg Cutoff (currently a bike path of the same name)

So far I don't see any big...

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I'm hoping that if they have to close the concrete viaduct for upgrades (and any steel bits they're keeping) that they'd do it at the same time that they're doing the demolition on today's connection...

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

I believe that is the ultimate answer but not the short term one. Once all new cars are on site (in the expanded yard) the represent a capacity expansion.

But initially (which was the question...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

Cambridge has piled a lot of both residential and office into the Alewife area--probably equal to (or more than) Central Square in terms of units and Sq Ft.

The objection to re-routing the 79 and...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

I like it. Route 2's whole Exit 57 "complex" (not just the DOT facility but also all the space inside the clover leafs) should be transformed into a Red Line terminus and then the excess land sold...

Re: Congestion toll in Boston?

INRIX, Strava Metro (https://metro.strava.com/faq/) and others have lots of (anonymized) trip data.

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Not that it is much consolation, but early on it wasn't even clear that MassDOT could take possession of New Lechmere while at the same time continuing to use Current Lechmere, which would've...
