Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

I was in Dublin a couple of weeks ago and had the opportunity to ride the buses there and didn't notice that. What I did notice was the quick acceleration that the buses (all Volvo, per Wikipedia...

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

It will even benefit those farther out: commuters using the Commuter Rail. Instead of sitting in the waiting room, passengers can shop for their groceries and bring them with them on the train,...

Re: North Station, Charles River Draw, & Tower A

If its tenancy is the result of a long term lease and recorded at the Registry of Deeds, the City will usually list the lessee as the owner.

Re: Northampton Square Complex (24-Story Tower) | Albany St | Roxbury

Not sure, but this is a completely different project in a part that was to remain (mostly) unaffected by the tower project. The pool repair project consists of a depth reduction, new drainage system,...

Re: BU Development Thread

They're expanding the footprint out and towards the rear and have been driving sheet piles for the past week or so. I live about 150 feet away on E. Brookline St and every morning I get a nice...

I'm pretty sure that was the Milner on Charles St South.

Re: Boston - Most Embarrassing Blight That Tourists See

As a descendant of survivors who came here on account of that very famine (as well as some much more recent arrivals), I concur 100%. It belongs at the Museum of Bad Art.

Re: One Bromfield | 1 Bromfield Street | Downtown

I walked up it yesterday. I counted six empty storefronts out of a total of (I think) 29 storefronts.

Re: One Bromfield | 1 Bromfield Street | Downtown

How many empty storefronts are there? I walk up it regularly, and off the top of my head can think of no more than three. Next time I walk up, I'll do a count...

Re: The New Retail Thread

Not a fan of George Howell - their roast is way too strong and rather expensive- though not sure where Render is. I've been getting my coffee at Paul at Court and Washington since Red Barn closed for...

Re: The New Retail Thread

Hopefully they'll reopen their Faneuil Hall location soon, now that the HVAC work there has finished and the ground floor retail establishments are slowly returning. There isn't much good coffee in...

Re: The New Retail Thread

I was an interpretive ranger at a small urban state park in the late 1990s. Under state law, drinking in state parks is illegal, but I was told by my supervisor more or less "People enjoying a glass...

Re: The New Retail Thread

I go to the TJ Maxx sometimes. Maybe Newbury Comics to get that gift for a nephew's birthday or the occasional Pixies, Fugazi, or Heatmiser/Elliott Smith re-release on vinyl (and to relive the time I...

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

I don't hate it, but if I was the owner of the W Hotel, I might have a problem with it. That's all I can see now: A giant W!

Re: Winter Garden | 100 Federal St. | Financial District

I love Red Barn. Their Faneuil Hall shop is temporarily closed while the building's HVAC is replaced, leaving me with very few places to get decent coffee in the area.

Re: Nominations: ArchBoston ugliest buildings

780 Harrison Avenue (https://goo.gl/maps/4NX6u2DBHmL2), aka the Housman Medical Research Center. It looks like someone turned a men's room inside out. The only thing missing is the urinals.

Re: The New Retail Thread

Pret a Manger at State and Washington disappeared last week. One day it was there, and the next day *poof* it's like it never existed. I wonder if the always busy Paul bakery across the street had...

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

I think a lot of people would be happy to see them dropped off of the top of the John Hancock Tower.

Re: General Infrastructure

No turn on red is a vestige of the energy crises in the 1970s, meant to prevent excessive idling. In urban areas it should be the default. Per a FHWA study on practices in other countries...

Re: Proposed But Never Built

I don't mind the shorter of the two buildings at IP at all, but the Palladian Palace is probably one of the ugliest high rises in North America. 500 Boylston is so cheesy that it inspired the...

Re: Parcel Q1 | 10 Drydock Ave. | Seaport

Yes, because LRVs run on a fixed guideway. Short of derailment, there's no chance of them bumping the walls.

Re: Proposed But Never Built

It looks like they were trying to out-Philip Johnson Philip Johnson's more monstrous post-1970s postmodern uglies (500 Boylston, International Place, etc)

Re: Parking Permits

Residential permits should be tied to residents, not cars. Why shouldn't I, as a resident of my street, be able to park a Zipcar or rental near my home during my reservation? I have been ticketed...

Re: Proposed Boston flood barrier

It is. I was told once by the MDC ranger who oversaw the Charles River Dam and the area parks that each of the six pumps at the Charles River Dam move about 25,000 (or maybe 250,000?
it was about...
