Re: East Cambridge / Infill and Small Projects

A (mostly) single-floor store front with surface parking in the back. In one of the most expensive land-scarce markets in the country!?

Re: Dock Square Parking Garage, 20 Clinton Street

Option 5 is barely sketched in, it has no articulation and not at all convincing as a serious proposal. It may just be a scare tactic to try and push consensus to option 4 (the one they really want?)...

Re: MIT East Campus - Kendall Square Gateway | Cambridge

The plaza here was always such a rarely used dead zone. It will not be missed.

Re: The New Retail Thread

Revolutionary Clinics is proposing a 2nd Cambridge marijuana dispensary at 541 Mass. Ave. There is already a competitor's dispensary just a half mile up the road. Central Sq needs many things but...

Re: BU Development Thread

Questrom was peak Silber reactionary, a gigantic historicist brick wart. From the Cambridge side of the Charles it is overwhelming in size. There could be some moderating of the tower cantilevers so...

Re: BU Development Thread

All right BU. If Silber would hate it (and he would loathe this) then it must be doing something right. And this gets a lot right.

Re: Cambridge Developments

Smith Center redo got it right. It's open, welcoming and has a nice roof deck too along with a much improved front patio. Will be a great indoor space in the winter. Now they need to do the same to...

Re: East Boston Developments

Very nice, good to see some real design in Eastie instead of the usual mindless traditional clone.

Re: Education First (Phase III) | 10 North Point Blvd | Cambridge

The real precast is a lot less contrasty than the rendering shows, making it seem much more monolithic. EF: Education Fortress.

Re: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial | Boston Common | Downtown

If historical preservationists, Friends of the Common, etc have integrity and consistency they will loudly protest all of these proposals. None of them belong there, all are bloated, big foot...

Re: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial | Boston Common | Downtown

These are Greenway-appropriate proposals not Common-appropriate. A smaller version of the hands could work.

Re: Orient Heights BHA Redevelopment | Faywood Ave/Vallar Rd/Waldemar Ave | East Bost

The townhouses look like they could be future maintenance money pits, too much taxpayer cost for too little return.

Re: Marriott Moxy Hotel | 240 Tremont Street (Parcel P-7A) | Theater District

In NY this would be invisible but there is still a ways to go before Boston hits any kind of critical mass of glass towers, boring or otherwise.

Re: The Parkway Apartments | 1507 VFW Parkway | West Roxbury

A nice historic touch would be for them to buy, install, light and forever maintain Topsy Fontaine the wing-flappin' chicken! who lived for a long time right in that area (but is now on the RKG.)...

Re: Fenway Area Redevelopment

There's a lot going on but it's basically just brick and glass, there aren't a dozen different materials. Busy, but in an interesting way.

Re: South Boston Infill and Small Projects

362-64 W Broadway is some sweet modernism (although it looks like there will be significant VE) and 191 Condor Street East Boston is nice too.

Re: Parcel 9 - The Greenway

Now this is a hotel. It would have better complemented Blackstone by contrasting it instead of the mousey homage to Route 128 that is going up.

Re: Boston (née New Brighton) Landing | New Balance Complex | Brighton

The struts are a strong gesture that add a lot of interest. The roof mechanical box though is poorly done and doesn't tie in to the building at all.
