Re: Housing a Changing City: Boston 2030

No numbers, but you will need to be a bit patient for GenX to move out of the burbs. By burbs I mean outside of 128. Don't know how millennial/(what's after millennials?) would be able to live there...

Re: Housing a Changing City: Boston 2030

At the same time the population in the burbs should be decreasing, give it another 5-10 more years to be more obvious. So while the population of Boston is going to continue to grow the actual...

Re: Chelsea

College professors and scientific researchers make 250-400k? Have to think you don't make that kind of cash unless you are at a VP or CxO level. You're not talking about that big of a group. Now if...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Dumb question about the Newton stops. Do they have to build the high level platforms to be considered accessible? It just dawned on me that might be the case.

Making the Newton stops on the Worcester line accessible.

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

They wouldn't need to move the tracks, would they? Now that I actually read the PDF, seems like $43M is a lot for what I am imagining would be needed.

Re: Innovation Dist. / South Boston Seaport

Honestly if they are trying to hide that it's a parking garage you think there would be something better than... whatever that is... to not look that out of place.

Re: New England Electrical Grid

My preference is getting people off the grid.

In theory at least if people used something else (eg: solar) it would reduce demand for natural gas and thus lessen the need for more pipelines....

Re: TransitMatters Regional Rail Plan

This is getting awfully off topic, but Tesla is very badly missing the production projections they had told Wall Street about, which was taking into account growing pains and such. So no, not...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

That's pretty much it though, the space to work with is really tight where it is now alongside the Pike. It would be much easier I imagine to build new platforms on the other side. Now both platforms...

Re: The New Retail Thread

Soo I went to the new Wegmans at the Natick Mall. Not sure what to make of it as a grocery store but literally like half of the upper floor is taken up by restaurants and prepared food stations. It's...

Re: Amazon HQ2 RFP

Yeah, getting back on topic, Amazon is pretty mad about a new payroll tax proposed by Seattle... seems like a good time to announce HQ2. As I mentioned earlier I think a big part of this HQ2 scheme...

Re: Amazon HQ2 RFP

Well, clearly not enough housing is being built, so something's gotta give.

Re: Amazon HQ2 RFP

Yeah but it's officially confirming what was already known. It sounds like the HQ2 announcement is due soon... they would have just waited if Boston was the winner. I think the idea that they are...

Re: Amazon HQ2 RFP

Yeah, but given the insane hours that Amazon workers work, they will want to be as close as possible to the office. Even they will be living 2-3 to a unit.

Does seem like they greatly prefer the...

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Ah, well if it was possible to roam on the Worcester Line tracks, then you could do that. That was kind of what I was suggesting with Indigo but having it start at Riverside. Maybe have a stop near...

Re: Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

With GJ, I was envisioning more of something with Indigo and the Worcester line. Not sure how you would get to Green from GJ.

At this point it sure looks like Cambridge is doing what they can to...

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

Don't disagree but given that most are going to just going to transfer to the Blue at Airport it almost doesn't matter. They'll end up spending the extra money for the subway pass anyway.

Re: Dorchester Developments

280k per unit is still a lot, when you factor in these are smallish one bedrooms that are almost like studios. Doesn't seem like these would be big enough to double up on.

Re: "The Beat" | 135 Morrissey (Boston Globe Site) | Dorchester

Doing anything exciting there ended when they uncovered the environmental problems. I mean the land was the whole reason John Henry bought the Globe in the first place... if not for that someone...
