Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

I sort of wish that the doors would have a counter: Three cycles and then they stay closed until an attendant pulls the stuck fool, tickets them, and holds them for the next train. The shame of that...

Re: East Cambridge / Infill and Small Projects

121 First has CarGurus as the tenant.

Has any tenant been announced for 76-96? I canít figure what theyíre expecting to occupy such a large horizontal space.

Re: Somerville Developments

Thatís because it was highly contaminated. There is one section in the parking lot of the current project that is flagged to be left undisturbed.

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

The MBTA doesnít appear to believe in replacing burnt out light bulbs. Instead, they replace, or usually add, a fixture.

Re: Fairmount Line Upgrade

Buses can also be drastically re-routed on a moments notice. Steel rails in the ground canít. The flexibility of buses also gives them a feeling of impermanence.

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Minor correction: The state constitution has been amended more recently than 1918. I believe the most recent amendment stripped incarcerated felons of the right to vote in 2000.

Re: Volpe Transportation Center Development | Kendall Sq | Cambridge

The gap from the street, with the access controlled parking court, is a feature, not a bug. Putting in an urban friendly street wall is exactly what they donít want. You can thank Oklahoma City for...

Re: General Infrastructure

Any suggestion of scheduled commercial service at Hanscom will bring out the very powerful NIMBY crowd. The Shuttle America saga will get a reboot.

Re: Volpe Transportation Center Development | Kendall Sq | Cambridge

I really think the Volpe program requirement are better suited for a site somewhere like Hanscom.

Re: Volpe Transportation Center Development | Kendall Sq | Cambridge

I think security requirements dictate cladding that has the ability to withstand certain classes of attacks. That may mean VE gets you oppressive boxes.

Re: Assembly Row (Assembly Sq Redevelopment) | Assembly Square | Somerville

Even with a shuttle to a transit station, a suburban office park is stiflingly isolated. If you are jammed up with a problem, you donít have many alternatives to clear your head. At Assembly Square...

Re: I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

The cynic in me would consider the Pike flooding a feature, not a bug. Let the folks take the dry commuter rail.

More seriously, I would expect it to be built with considerable dewatering capacity...

Re: I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

Would it even be possible to submerge the Pike under a surface level Storrow and rail ROW along the throat? Put the western portal somewhere in the former Beacon Park, and the eastern portal in the...

Re: The New Retail Thread

I suppose the seaport has enough parking to satisfy TJís. They persistently refused to consider Davis Square because there wasnít enough parking.

Re: The Boulevard (nťe The Times/Littlest Bar) | 110 Broad St | Downtown

The tokenism of the preservation, with the lack of response by the rest of the building, bothers me.

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Re: East Cambridge / Infill and Small Projects

What is going in to 76-96 First? The building looks like a car dealership at this point.

Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

Any proposal for RER that utilizes the Grand Junction will cause the population of East Cambridge to generate enough bricks to make a proper Beacon Hill sidewalk around the equator.
