Re: South End Construction

Jesus Christ. Can you guys at least please keep the sociopolitical commentary out of the development projects threads?

Start a new thread in General if you just need to score some politics on the...

Re: Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

I find it symptomatic of America’s incessant polarization of everything.

Did it ever cross some of your minds that some of us - probably the majority, actually - thoroughly enjoy both tall,...

Re: Future Skylines/Developments of the US

As a guy who bought land and built a single family house in central Tokyo, you couldn’t be more correct!

Re: Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

Well that’s some egg on my face! Especially considering I’ve been there four times since they expanded that insanity. In my defense, I stay at the EAST Hotel (https://www.east-hongkong.com/en/) in...

Re: Marriott Moxy Hotel | 240 Tremont Street (Parcel P-7A) | Theater District

That OOH display is fantastic, and the pink neon signage is a winner too. This building successfully pulls of quirky in a way The W’s branding teams wish their building next door could have done.

Re: Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

For me, the disappointment comes not from the loss of a bit of overtly-visible corporate branding, but at the loss of a visually nice lighting design element on our newest and most prominent tower. I...

Re: One Kenmore Square | 560 Commonwealth Avenue | Kenmore Square

I love this too; the flatiron side looks sharp, and the fat side looks bananas thanks to the whacky design elements clearly seen on slide 26 of the BCDC pdf. I hope the colors come out just as seen...

Re: State Street HQ | One Congress | Bulfinch Crossing | West End

Wow, jarring is well-put. I haven’t taken any design classes in two decades, but to me the negative space above and below the King & Spaulding logo is too out of proportion with the negative space on...

Re: Attleboro Downtown Redevelopment

Shepard, I grew up in Foxboro and spent lots of time in Attleboro, had friends going to Bishop Feehan and cousins who lived in the town.

Attleboro is quite nice, with solid smaller scale New...

Re: Marriott Moxy Hotel | 240 Tremont Street (Parcel P-7A) | Theater District

I love how they brought the backside pattern to the front's mechanical screen / crown. Perfectly playful without crossing the line into campy. This would fit perfectly in with what's going up in...

Re: MXD II | 325 Main St. | Kendall Square

At this point in time, I keep reading that Kendall Class A is going for higher per square footage than anywhere else in the US outside of areas of Manhattan. Even if this isn't entirely accurate,...

Re: One Post Office Square Makeover and Expansion

I don't hate One Boston Place, I kind of like the visible X bracings, reminds me of the John Hancock Center in Chicago (although not as nice).

One Federal and it's near-clone One Beacon are my two...

Re: How does Boston's urbanism compare?

Great discussion, guys.

Anyone else been to Australia or New Zealand? Melbourne is an official sister city of Boston (along with Kyoto, Barcelona, and Strausbourg - some excellent company), and...

No idea if this is a trustworthy source, lots of Cato Institute citations, but . . .

Re: State Street HQ | One Congress | Bulfinch Crossing | West End

For those in the know, how reusable is all that rebar above? Or is that even rebar? Now that I’m looking closely, it looks more like aluminum ducting or something.

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Re: Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

I’ve been on a few residential balconies likes these in Tokyo, at about the same height. It depends on how the balcony aligns with prevailing winds. They can be surprisingly calm inside, and they’re...

Re: Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

I hope they at least follow through with the giant Monét prints. They could have a rotation. Maybe coordinate with the MFA or Isabella Stuart.

Re: Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

I hear you. I am very careful about mentioning Tokyo or drawing any comparisons between Boston (or America in general) and Tokyo (or Japan in general). People take it as bragging or necessarily...

Re: Columbus Ave Student Housing | 10 Burke St | Northeastern University

Totally agreed and I would love to see more Miami-esque pastels here and there. But this looks like someone evenly applied about a million tubes of Grumbacher titanium white to a surface without any...

Re: South Station Tower | South Station | Downtown

You can be mad at both - both are infinitely frustrating, both are myopically shortsighted.

I know - I know - that this necessarily cannot be an apples-to-apples comparison, but having spent two...
