Re: Dock Square Parking Garage | 20 Clinton Street |

Ding Ding Ding. BCDC is advisory. They almost never disprove a project (I can't think of any others) but this doesn't stop it by any means. It will still happen. A giant, glassy mess in the middle of...

Re: BU Development Thread

It also is part of the SOHO loft/reused factory space aesthetic that is big with tech firms and designers and has been for a while.

Honestly, I'd prefer to see a nice duct to a crappy dropped...

Re: SBWTC /South Boston Waterfront Transportation Center | Seaport

The garage is MassPort, which I believe makes it automatically exempt from City of Boston regulations like the parking freeze.

Re: The New Retail Thread

Yep. Makes sense as a competitor to West Elm.

Re: Motor Mart Tower | 201 Stuart Str. | Park Sq | Boston

Agreed. It's really handsome and a new way of looking at the vertical addition--it's going to be really striking.

Re: Crossroads at Kenmore | 560 Commonwealth Ave | Kenmore Square

I love this comparison because it continues to show how impoverished the design of the Data Sciences tower is. Sigh.

Re: Continuum | Barry's Corner | Allston

You can usually find PNFs on the BPDA website. Look under Development Projects. The list is default and it can be a trial and error to find the project (this one is under Barry's Corner, not...

Re: Mass. General Hospital says it plans large addition

Also, hospitals have very strict understanding of floor plan. So you might need clusters of six patient rooms for staffing and every eight clusters you need x amount of support space and so on. It's...

Re: The New Retail Thread

Wouldn't surprise me if that isn't part of the reason there is a Landmark District there now. It will be interesting to see what is proposed. There has been some great contemporary infill on the...

Re: State Street HQ | One Congress | Bulfinch Crossing | West End

It really is handsome. Kind of sad that there will be a giant State Street sign at the top.

Re: The New Retail Thread

Also, Askenazy has not really been that innovative and hasn't done much to improve the property beyond some signs. To my mind, they've been a real disappointment as an operator. Given the number of...

Re: BU Data Sciences Center | 665 Commonwealth Avenue | BU Central

The more I've thought about it, the more I realize that my dissatisfaction with the building is the disconnect between the tower and base. There seems to be a physical idea about the tower--the...

Re: The New Retail Thread

It's interesting--I work near there and desperately miss Hillside as the place I would go for a fancy, pick me up lunch. Good, dependable food, great service were a given there. Cultivar was the...

Re: BU Data Sciences Center | 665 Commonwealth Avenue | BU Central

In general, the BU proposal seems pretty derivative of a bunch of much better buildings and doesn't have a solid idea define it. It's volume in search of a parti.

Re: Bulfinch Crossing Residential Tower (GCG Phase I) | 50 Sudbury St | Gov't Center

Actually, the complex was all Landmarked by the Boston Landmarks Commission. Local landmarking is the highest level of protection for a historic building. The NPS can landmark (for example, the...

Re: Dot Block | Dot Ave, Greenmount St, Hancock St | Dorchester

That looks out of date to me. I seem to recall that in the approved project there is a signalized intersection at Pleasant and Hancock. I suppose they might have gone to a rotary, but it seems...

Re: Alexandra Hotel Renovation | 1769 Washington St | South End

Yes, that's a great project. But it isn't fair to show lovely precedents that the developer has no interest or finances to recreate. If they could afford that they wouldn't need the 12 stories.

Re: Alexandra Hotel Renovation | 1769 Washington St | South End

Like anything else, it's all about money. Typically, you need 3' between a window and the lot line. But, it's possible to put in windows on the lot line, but with much more expensive fire protection...

Re: Downtown Crossing

To be honest, I'm just happy they didn't strip out any character and replace it with generic storefront. DTX is great if you look up, but at the gound level it's been renovated into bland.

Re: Innovation Square (iSQ) | 6 Tide St. | Seaport

Agreed. This is well into the Marine Park (across from the drydock where all kinds of crazy sandblasting and stuff happens) and seems totally appropriate for that location. The name is silly, but...

Re: Massport Parcel A2 | Seaport

This was my first thought too. But, I think this is a fine addition to the Seaport. I'm not convinced about those arches yet, we need to see a lot more views but I wonder if they aren't somehow...
