Re: Biking in Boston

I’ve noticed how empty the central lanes look as well. I think the idea might be that there are just too many pedestrians on either side of the road, so better to put the bikes in the middle. But,...

Re: Newton Developments

Interesting, but still doesnt explain why it was built - it just says Star was 'granted air rights' but did the state pay for decking, etc? I would think there would have been much cheaper places to...

Re: Landmark Center Expansion | Fenway

I thought there was always a second tower planned for that spot - is that in the master plan, and just not applied for yet, or is there actually no formal plan for an eventual second new tower here?

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

What’s wrong with this? Isn’t this what we call beauty in this country?

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Yes. Restore Hanover. Pedestrianization on a selective basis is good, but a lot of pro-pedestrian/good urbanism people don’t realize that having vehicular traffic livens an area and the more...

Re: Biking in Boston

Henry (or anyone) - were you at the path meeting for the roslindale bike path last night? I couldn’t make it.

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Holy crap. I can’t believe I was so misinformed. I actually never looked at the website, but when I moved to roslindale, I talked to the commuter services people at my job and they were very...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Work owns the parking and it’s very cheap... i pay about 6.50 a day, vs $17 for Commuter->subway. Still, even tho my parking is cheap, the cost of transit is pretty damn high, and T passes wouldn’t...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

I literally live a 3 minute walk to the station, and I could take the commuter rail from Roslindale but 1) it’s twice as much money as parking and 2) the morning trains, unless you get really early...

Re: New CR Bi-Level Coaches

That’s excellent news. I would imagine using all bi-level coaches could substantially reduce overcrowding.

Re: Housing a Changing City: Boston 2030

Nestor Ramos’ opinion piece is especially excellent. I don’t always like his stuff this much but this is a good piece....

Re: 8-10 Waldo Street | Coolidge Corner | Brookline

Excellent rant, and replete with details. My initial reaction is,

1. I didn’t know tearing down that whole garage was part of the plan here. I like those little shops, and hate the fact that...

Re: Jackson Square Phase III | Jamaica Plain

^Thanks elemenoh. I remember seeing that plan for the little shops. That seems like something unlikely to happen… I always wish to see a replication of the little “taxpayer“ shops that give an area...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

This might get lost upthread since this thread seems to discuss dozens of issues simultaneously. Maybe also post a new thread in the "events" section where it will stay at the top of the page?

Re: MGH Expansion | 275 Cambridge Street | West End

The Wang Building and West End demo between Fruit and Cambridge Streets was what really wrecked the lawn. I've seen photos taken from Cambridge Street looking down what used to the several narrow...

Re: MGH Expansion | 275 Cambridge Street | West End

I actually edited my quote out, I guess while you typed this reply - I realized after posting that I think Ellison is not shown correctly. Now, looking again, it might be, but it's a weird...

Re: MGH Expansion | 275 Cambridge Street | West End

This shows how enormous these buildings actually are - these are massive.

For historical context, notice how Blossom St used to be a tiny way, the width of an alley, barely visible... now it's...

Re: Crossroads at Kenmore | 560 Commonwealth Ave | Kenmore Square

I think the tower is awesome. I do admit that I am put off by the fattening as it gets taller. However, while I lack the architectural terminology to put my feeling into words, all I can say is...

Re: Crossroads at Kenmore | 560 Commonwealth Ave | Kenmore Square

It could even make up for the disastrous loss of West Gate, and the office park abomination replacement. (Edit - well, attenuate it)

Regardless of what ends up happening, it's nice to see the...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

I used to work at BIDMC and almost all the nurses drove to work, and they drove alone, in my department. I doubt that’s changed much, especially since a lot of them lived quite far away... but Beth...
