Re: NEMA Boston | 399 Congress St. | Seaport

This looks like a moldy leftover of the Park Lane era.

Re: The Boulevard (née The Times/Littlest Bar) | 110 Broad St | Downtown

The building just needs more texture above ground level.

Flat composite paneling is never going to look better than expensive vinyl siding. Look at 10 Farnsworth or The Gables for examples of how...

Re: Gables Seaport (née Waterside Place 1B) | 505 Congress Street | Seaport

The facade is awesome and a great counterpoint to the misery of Phase 1.

Re: Columbus Ave Student Housing | 10 Burke St | Northeastern University

The white part of the building screams "this is where our budget ran out".

Re: BGI Office Tower (Massport Parcel A2) | 401 Congress Street | Seaport

My main reservation is the street activation seems lacking in all the renders.

Glassed-in lobbies are miserable for surrounding streets. I think we know better and can do better.

Re: 286-290 Tremont st | Chinatown

I can't believe this style of building is still being proposed on the cusp of 2019

Re: Residential Tower | 41 Lagrange Street | Chinatown

I really hope they end-up extendin the facade design across the right 1/4 of the front side.

Right now, that segment just looks dated and stale.

Re: SBWTC /South Boston Waterfront Transportation Center | Seaport

Re: Echelon Seaport | 133-135 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

It makes me irrationally happy to see this kind of texture / depth in a façade. Two decades of flat curtainwalls with flat glass windows has nearly bored me to death.

What's more, there's no...

Re: The St Regis Residences (former Whiskey Priest site) | 150 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

Agreed!

I'll never understand how garbage-looking, flat Alucobond ever became acceptable in high-end construction.

The Jaguar dealership proposal really underscored how insane it is to wrap a...

Re: Pier 4 Condo Building (Former Anthony's site) | Seaport

Balconies used to be poured as part of concrete floor slabs. You see this in a lot of '70s buildings.

This turned out to be bad news.

When a prefab concrete balcony exposed to the elements for...

Re: SBWTC /South Boston Waterfront Transportation Center | Seaport

That façade is so painfully half-assed. It looks incoherent and unfinished.

Re: Parcel JK | NorthPoint | Cambridge

Re: Six West Broadway Hotel |South Boston

Personally, I find a reason to celebrate a "boring" building with symmetry, cohesion and texture after countless designs that tried very hard to insert randomness, while drawing from the same...

Re: 14 West Broadway | South Boston

I respect the fact that we both have differing, subjective opinions on this.

For me, the problems with Alucobond are:

Approach - Using composite metal paneling with depth (10 Farnsworth St.)...

Re: Six West Broadway Hotel |South Boston

Sorry folks, I totally dig this. It's clean, symmetrical and doesn't fall victim to the compulsion to add random protrusions or dissonant materials.

Re: 150 Kneeland Street | Chinatown

Oh hell yes. This is wonderful to read.

tl;dr: "We're not using asymmetrical, colossal order windows wrapped in flat, silver or grey Alucobond."
