Re: Waltham Developments

Pretty surprised they are bothering. Last time I was at one of the other office buildings on Wyman Street (which I believe is also owned by Hobbs Brook) it seemed pretty empty to me. Granted it was a...

Re: Downtown Crossing

You know, I briefly looked at their financials and came to the conclusion that the stock price increase is 100% due to the tax cuts. I don't know if you can say they are "killing it".

Re: MBTA Bus & BRT

Davis would be better than Alewife IMO, given how much of a disaster Alewife is these days traffic wise.

Re: Boston and surrounding areas housing crisis

IIRC Housing isn't part of the official inflation calculation. And things appear to be slowing now, although a large part of that is due to the rate increases. Of course that also means that housing...

Re: North-South Rail Link

Getting the Feds to cough up the $15-$20B needed to fund the link is going to be nearly impossible now. Especially with them being beyond broke. And face it, that's what it's going to cost to do it...

Re: The Parkway Apartments | 1507 VFW Parkway | West Roxbury

I dunno about this one. Maybe if it was closer to the West Roxbury stop. Plus being next to the trailer park will depress rents. Wonder what they will try to get for the units.

Definitely will...

Re: General Electric HQ | 244-284 A Street | Fort Point

Went by it last week, they really damaged the land where the parking lot was/the new building would be, worse than I can remember. Certainly fixable however. It feels to me that the rehab is taking a...

Re: Innovation Square (iSQ) | 6 Tide St. | Seaport

Being that close to the jet wake is going to be a tough sell I would think. Biotech might be the best bet.

Re: Flower Exchange Redevelopment | South End

The lab might be a bigger problem than the meth heads...

Most of the properties look like they are on the other side of BMC. I don't know if that makes a difference.

Re: Flower Exchange Redevelopment | South End

If that area is still in rough shape, I dunno if you would want to bike there. Seems like it's going to have to be car-centric for the most part for the time being, although maybe they could run a...

Re: Innovation Dist. / South Boston Seaport

100k isn't going to be getting you into a 3000/month apartment though. Even 2000/month is pushing it. You could certainly get a coworker or two and split it.

Re: Innovation Dist. / South Boston Seaport

Wouldn't be surprised if there were 4-5 Adults living in one of those "luxury" 2 bedrooms. Wouldn't be surprised if several of those units were on AirBnB or similar.

Re: General Electric HQ | 244-284 A Street | Fort Point

Wonder if Amazon would be interested in the building once the rehab is done.

Re: Ollie | 217 Albany St | South End

When you figure there's a ton of Post-College kids out there living 2,3,4,5 in a 2 bedroom, having a private bedroom at least would be considered an upgrade.

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

I think the issue is that connectivity upgrades just isn't sexy enough. Red-Blue fills a very big need in connecting Blue riders directly with Kendall and SS, and that's the only reason it's even...

An update of sorts, saw this:

Reverse commute bus launching August 1st. Not MBTA but does seem...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

Even cut-n-cover is a pipe dream really. I think it would have to be a tunnel with no intermediate stops and that seems unrealistic even with an unlimited budget.

I really do think that quadrant...

Re: Allston Yards (Stop and Shop) | 60 Everett St | Allston

Well, if you live too far away from the station to walk, and wanted to get on the commuter rail... but I think it'd be more for Stop and Shop.

Re: West Cambridge (Alewife, Acorn Park, Cambridge Park, Fresh Pond)

That's pretty much par for the course these days. Certainly could have been taller at least.

Re: Fairmount Line Upgrade

^^^

I was under the impression that nearly the entire ridership of Fairmount Line is based upon the last two stops - Readville and Fairmount, based upon that stunt to make the line free earlier....

Re: North-South Rail Link

What about doing a Red Line branch tunnel? Stop at Aquarium and then North Station. Would be way cheaper I imagine.

So is there a plan to deal with the South Station bottleneck without the NSRL or SSX?

Re: West Cambridge (Alewife, Acorn Park, Cambridge Park, Fresh Pond)

What exactly is it with architects obsession with that, anyway? It feels like it would look more natural if they stuck to one styling.

It being an OK height sort of makes up for it.
