Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

I think people get hung up on "The T must make some parts because you can't buy them anymore" issue. Does that necessarily mean that the vehicles are any more expensive to maintain? My understanding...

Re: I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

I'm not arguing that they should build an unsafe highway. If they think breakdown lanes are important, fine, make I-90 three lanes instead of four. But widening the highway will have a negative...

Re: I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

One thing that really bugs me (and please correct me if this has changed) is that MassDOT wants to rebuild this stretch of the Mass Pike with 4 lanes plus a wide shoulder on the inside and outside....

Re: The New Retail Thread

I think Pret has really over saturated themselves downtown. Do we really need one on every other block?

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

San Francisco runs heritage trolley cars in service every day. If they can do it, why can't we?

Re: General Infrastructure

This is why we can't have nice things. BTW this is also the reason why there are no benches or outdoor tables in Allston.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Unless you manage to live in an urban neighborhood of another city, such as Worcester, Salem, Lowell, etc.

Re: Silver Line to Chelsea

D St seems very simple to me. Rest in green/walk for D St. As a bus is detected as approaching from either direction, signal begins the countdown/FDW phase, then turns yellow and red for cars on D...

Re: Quaker Lane + Congress Square | Downtown

It's better than the glass color for the nearby Winter Garden.... seaport green.

Re: New Red and Orange Line Cars

The thing that bothers me most is that they screwed up the T logos. It's like a cheap knockoff logo. The circle is too thin. The T is the wrong proportion (the top of the T is not wide enough) and...

Re: Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

BINGO. The free market may be largely free but it is certainly not equitable. We must proactively work to try to lift up those who the free market tends to leave behind. That has an economic...

Re: Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

The Boston Globe article quotes multiple black people saying "I don't feel welcome there." referring to the Seaport. I don't remember if it was in the article or a comment on it, but one black person...

Re: Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

If after reading the article and this thread, you still don't understand what people want done to try to rectify the situation, then you're not paying attention. There were many suggestions, most of...

Re: Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

One important point that I think got lost in this discussion is that one can do something that has racist outcomes without having a racist intent going into it.

There is a difference between "you...

Re: Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

Of course blacks are not excluded from any of these places. It's not that businesses or government are discriminating against blacks when it comes to the Seaport, it's that it is a place where black...

Re: Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

I thought the Globe was very fair in its assessment. It recognized that it's largely income inequality that is causing the racial disparity in the Seaport, and that is because there is a racial...

Re: Assembly Row (Assembly Sq Redevelopment) | Assembly Square | Somerville

I prefer RRFBs, rectangular rapid flash beacons. They basically alert drivers when a pedestrian is crossing, who they are required to yield to. It doesn't require drivers to stop like a red light...

Re: Biking in Boston

There is actually enough width to simply convert the planned separated bike lane to two way in the future. The main reason why they didn't do that now are that they'll have to add new signals facing...

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Actually, to my knowledge, the cycle track on Causeway and Commercial will never connect to the North Washington St bridge. The City claims they can't because they need all the width for car lanes...

Re: Back Bay Garage Tower | Dartmouth and Stuart | Back Bay

Very few people actually get on at Back Bay Station. It only stops there today because at the time the route was created, Copley Station was not ADA accessible, but Back Bay Station was. The current...

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

I can guarantee you right now that the cycle track is going to be a jaywalking pedestrian slolam course. I think the designers had good intentions, but in the end it's not going to work.

Re: Reasonable Transit Pitches

If the parking at Alewife is filling up, the price is too low. Raising the price would keep spaces open throughout the day and would raise additional funding that could be used to improve bus service...
