Re: Downtown Crossing

Well a hiccup in WeWork would certainly be a short term hit on office real estate in Boston (NYC, etc.)

But I honestly don't see how WeWork's build outs are any more problematic than the many...

Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

I was not so much talking about choice of transportation options. There are a lot of personal factors that go into one's choice of transportation mode.

I was more talking about choice of public...

Re: Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Also, most buildings slowly sink (about 1 foot, IIRC) as the Boston Blue Clay the pilings are sunk into dewaters under pressure. Eventually this stops (comes to equilibrium).

At MIT, newer...

Re: Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Cedar posts are under about 60% of Boston Proper (anyplace there is landfill). Back Bay, South End, Bay Village, South Cove (Chinatown), Dock Square, Bulfinch Triangle, Beacon Hill Flats, Symphony,...

Re: A navigable Muddy River

^ For so soon after the civil engineering work, that looks great. Give it 10 years to fill in and WOW!

Re: Regional Rail (including North-South Rail Link)

The problem is that most drivers cannot make the connection between better transit and improved traffic conditions. The messaging just does not seem to get through.

The concept that: every...

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

Actually, the T is at least talking to the contractor scheduled for the signal upgrades, to see if they can so some accelerated work in the JFK location, in keeping with the 2022 upgrades. Trying to...

Re: Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

I would assume that there is a liability issue if you provide an non-ADA compliant ramp, and someone gets hurt using it.

Re: Long Island Bridge

And the last bridge was built during a steel shortage during the Korean War. The steel used was barely up to structural standards. Surprising it lasted 60 years.

Re: Echelon Seaport | 133-135 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

It is usually up to community groups to keep track of the IDP funds, and commitments for affordable units. I know we do that pretty aggressively in Chinatown.

Re: City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

Record storage, sure (although some old ones are likely not fully digitized).

But ACCESS to city functions cannot all go online due to equity issues. Lots of city residents need in-person access...

Re: City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

^ Because the City needs about 5x the space available in Old City Hall. City government is just a wee bit larger than it was in 1865.

Re: Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

To be fair, this building has a tiny street wall footprint. It was never going to change Dalton Street's horrible character.

Also, the Christian Science lease for the property pretty much forbids...

Re: Northern Avenue Bridge Fort Point Channel

I think you are missing a key point about the traffic flow out of the Seaport.

The right turn most cars are making coming off the Moakley Bridge is not onto Atlantic. It is into the O'Neill...

Re: Whittier Choice Neighborhood | 1158 Tremont Street | Roxbury

Unless you have specific evidence, I doubt your suggestion of Northeastern influence is valid. The City has been working pretty aggressively to try to replace/rebuild old projects with better, more...

Re: South Boston Infill and Small Projects

All that infill construction in South Boston has to be adding net housing, right? I wonder if anyone has a count about how many units are being added -- seems like a lot!

Re: General MBTA Discussion Thread

One thing to keep in mind about delaying consolidation/closure, is many B and C stops need to be lengthened for Type 10's to be fully deployed.

So you really want to get the stop configurations...

Re: Encore Boston Harbor Casino | Everett

Because even with declining revenue, casinos remain insanely profitable.

And our population demographics are aging into Tucker Carlson-viewership territory too, so that is just following...

Re: Biking in Boston

The surface roads are only overbuild in some sections. There are two conditions that completely slam the surface roads (and make it hard to lane drop):

Near where they feed the O'Neill Tunnel...

Re: Crazy Transit Pitches

Well, I disagree with your disagree (but only slightly).

1) Boston is so much smaller than London, that it is unlikely we will ever need a long RER crosstown tunnel.

2) But our smaller cross...

Re: Hyperloop to Boston?

Modern TBM don't have a lot of trouble with lose glacial till, Boston blue clay, etc. The good boring companies (almost all European) can tune them for most substrates.

People always forget the...

Re: Ollie | 217 Albany St | South End

Yes, and the Albany Street side has always been designated for height/density.

The NIMBYs are basically being stupid, uninformed, a$$holes.

Re: Logan Airport Capital Projects

Wildly overstated. And a long time off.

The proposed people mover will not eliminate all the Massport busses, because it won't connect to all the remote parking options. Silver line still will...

Re: The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

The Kensington is a really low bar for comparison. It's probably among the cheapest looking residential constructed in the city in decades.
