Re: Pierce Boston (née The Point )| Boylston St/Brookline Av | Fenway

I have high quality windows in my place and there's a limit to their noise dampening ability. They block all the white noise but really loud stuff like helicopters and sirens can still make it...

Re: Pierce Boston (née The Point )| Boylston St/Brookline Av | Fenway

Yeah most of that comes across as someone who's never lived in a high-rise building before. Or even in a city, to be honest. Helicopters, seriously? Also, is he upset the doormen are doing their job?...

Re: MassDOT Pike Parcels 12 - 15 | Boylston St. and Mass. Ave | Back Bay

Agreed. Once there's a specific proposal for a parcel that seems to be moving forward, it should have its own thread.

Re: Kenmore Square North

Very true and a good point, but I wasn't referring just to the immediate vicinity of the sign. There are plenty of people who live in Audubon Circle, Fenway and Western Back Bay (probably parts of...

Re: Kenmore Square North

Maybe they should asks the residents of the neighborhood what they think instead of catering to suburbanites who come into the city once per year to watch a baseball game.

Re: Amazon HQ2 RFP

I'd be on board with a version of California's (failed) bill that proposed to remove all local zoning withing 0.25 miles of a transit stop. That would allow developers to build dense on transit with...

Re: Amazon HQ2 RFP

They were pretty clear that that was independent of the HQ2 search. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Re: Amazon HQ2 RFP

That article admits that the Boston data is unreliable (Boston has an asterix):

It also makes no mention of an increase in supply that would surely follow. It seems like they're just focusing...

Re: Logan Airport Capital Projects

Again - $1B is not that much money for a large-scale project like this. It sounds like a big number but it's really not when you think of the amount of people it would impact. The LAX APM for...

Re: Logan Airport Capital Projects

In the grand scheme of things $1B is not that much money for a project like this. For some context there were about 38 million passengers going through BOS in 2017 - that comes out to $26.31 per...

Re: Logan Airport Capital Projects

Yeah, anyone who is saying that an APM would be less convenient than the Silver Line (or #55 shuttle) clearly has never had to take the bus at peak times. It's an absolute nightmare - slow, clogged,...

Re: Logan Airport Capital Projects

Is a transfer enough of a disincentive to overcome a $20+ price difference? For most people I doubt it - someone who would pay an extra $20 to avoid a transfer would probably be taking a cab anyway....

Re: Logan Airport Capital Projects

Why not do what LAX is doing and have a consolidated transit hub that is connected to people mover? All the silver line buses could terminate at the Blue Line station instead of doing the loop at...

Re: The New Retail Thread

As far as I know there's no other difference between licenses (click for more information than you would ever want about MA's liquor license laws (http://www.mass.gov/abcc/pdf/faqfinal_2013.pdf))...

Re: Logan Airport Capital Projects

Yes. I've had it take 20 minutes to get from the blue line station to terminal E. When it's really crowded the bus becomes a giant clusterfuck of people with multiple huge bags getting on and off. It...

Re: Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

This whole vacant unit thing is a total red herring. It's just an easily-digestible soundbite that's easy for people to latch on to. While I'm not opposed to an additional tax on vacant units, it's...

Re: Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

+1

It's a lot easier to blame scary Chinese investors for our woes than to look at our extremely high cost of labor, militant NIMBYs, and excessive regulatory reviews as primary contributing...

Re: The New Retail Thread

Two problems: 1) MA's liquor license restrictions, 2) high cost of land.

Re: Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

You're being the person who shows up to a baby shower and starts fights about politics. Don't be that person.

Re: Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

I'm sympathetic to the idea of more low-income housing, but you're just impotently raging about income inequality here. A prime piece of property in the middle of Back Bay, with significant design...

Re: Encore Boston Harbor Casino | Everett

Roughly how much would it cost to just change the tint of the glass? I can't imagine it would be prohibitively expensive.

If the bronze tinted windows were switched out to something blue or grey...
